"Former ATF going to jail"

I'm not really sure where to post this but it was just something I wanted to get off my chest.

I found out 6 months ago that a former ATF of mine was arrested. It wasn't for prostitution but it was for something else. I've been following the case online and it seems like she had pleaded no contest. I don't have the full details of the case but from what I can gather, she was an accessory to the crime but not the actual perpetrator. Her bf/partner pleaded no contest and will get 12 years in prison. She hasn't been sentenced but the max she will get will be almost 6 years.

I never met her bf. As I understand it, she started having a bf last year and that's why she stopped providing. She's out on bail at this time. Part of me wants to call her just to be a friend. Part of me wants to call her to fuck her as a going away thing. I don't know. I'm most likely not going to do anything. I just wanted to post it out there just to get it out of my system. It's not like I can talk to anyone about this.

She was a very sweet girl when I spent time with her. I hoped that she was really like that. I want to remember her that way. But this conviction kinda sours the whole thing. Too bad. The sex was awesome. Oh well. Life goes on.

Why? She's leaving town and by the time she gets back she will have forgotten that it was ever mentioned here. Oh, and if you are so worried, why did you bring the whole thing up in the first place?

Ok so you don't want to tell us the girl, you don't want to tell us the charges, even though I imagine you know them since you said you followed the case on line - my guess, with a plea bargain of 12 years...something gang related where no one got hurt, like a drive by..or an armed robbery, of course without knowing the BF's criminal history...it's hard to tell from that info. Anyway, what kind of feedback are you looking for here?

As the devil's advocate I could read between the lines and say that it sounds like your former ATF was always with this B/F and that he was her pimp. She may have stopped providing because he fell in love with her, but obviously - because of such a serious felony conviction - the guy is an asshole and she's a dumb bitch for getting mixed up with a guy like that. Just walk away and let her deal with her bad decisions all by herself. Lots of girls on RB smarter then this girl or who at lest have pimps smarter then this guy, and there are still a few independent girls who treat you like a friend if that's what you are looking for.

Is this the feedback you want?

I understand your need and concern to reach out to someone you care about. No one likes to see people with meaning in our lives in trouble. However, sometimes your sincere help may not be in your Best Interest! I think its best you let go and move on considering the circumstances. Yes it will hurt and you will miss her but in time all wounds shall heal. Try to occupy your time doing things you enjoy. Go out,see new providers, catch up with old friends,if you don't have any friends, make some or just spend quality time soul searching on the person you have become. What gives you power, passion and purpose in life? I know it caint be only her? Theirs lots of cool providers on R.b you can get to know. Keep your head up and get busy enjoying life! Good luck

It’s a sad commentary, but the overwhelming number of women who are in prison are there because of the men in their lives.

I don't think 'overwhelming number' is correct and I don't think you can substantiate that. We have to hold women to some standard of personal responsibility as well as men. 'because of the men in their lives' is a loose phrase - that is certainly usually a factor, but it doesn't mean they weren't responsible for their behavior.
Can you really place all of the blame on their male partners/ relatives for things like alcoholism, recidivist DUI, check fraud, theft?

http://www.demossnewspond.com/pf/additional/statistics_about_women_prisoners

Population Size/Type of Offense
(Source: Bureau of Justice Statistics Bulletin, October 2005 and May 2006)
* Women are 7% of the prison population-up from 6.1% in 1995
* By mid-year 2006, there were 106,174 women in state and federal prisons and another 94,571 were in our nation's jails
* As of 2002, 33% were sentenced for Violent Offenses
* As of 2002, 28.7% were sentenced for Property Offenses
* As of 2002, 31.5% were sentenced for Drug Offenses

http://www.drugpolicy.org/communities/women/womeninpriso/

The problem of women in prison is directly tied to current US drug policy. For the last ten years, researchers have argued that the war on drugs has become a war on women (Belknap, 2002; Bloom & Chesney-Lind, 2000; Owen, 2000 & 1998, Cheney-Lind, 1997). In examining the increase in female prisoners, the Bureau of Justice Statistics found that about 1 in 3 women were likely serving time for a drug offense as compared to 1 in 8 in 1986 (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 1999). The Bureau of Prisons reports that almost 80% of their female population is incarcerated for drug-related offenses. This compares to only 26% of the 1981 female federal prison population that was held for drug offenses.
[...]
Research on women in prison has reveled that women's criminality must be understood in terms of the context of women's lives (Pollock, 2002; Belknap, 2001; Chensey-Lind, 1997). This context is informed by the three central issues shape the lives of women prior to imprisonment: multiplicity of abuse in their pre-prison lives; disrupted family and personal relationships, particularly those relating to male partners and children; and drug use (Owen, 1998). Given this background, spiraling marginality and subsequent criminality is a common result. Combined with a public policy that criminalizes drug-using behavior, the outcome is ever-increasing rates of imprisonment for women.

Thank you kalem for your post which makes important points that I left out. My statement of 'overwhelming number' was used in place of an often bandied about 90% of the women are in prison because of the men they associated with, by people who have worked in female prisons. It is subjective and arguably prejudicial, as one could make the statement that an 'overwhelming number' of men are in prison due their male associates.

The only value of such a theory has is in the counseling of female prisoners to make better choices.

As to accountability, you are very correct. Wherever the cause was due to a man in their lives, she made the choice of being with that man. However, it should be noted that women sometimes chose to be with the “wrong” man for the support of her children or a lack of faith in the potential of other options.

A couple of interesting articles that may be marginal in statistical findings have been observed at least anecdotally.

Many Women Go To Jail For Their Boyfriends

http://www.ktul.com/news/stories/0310/717775.html

Women prisoners report significant histories of domestic violence. Thirty-two percent of women in prison (approximately 4,000 women) serving sentences for murder were convicted of killing a husband, ex-husband or boyfriend.

Always remember that you gave her money to have sex with you and be nice to you.... There MIGHT haven been a connection but I doubt it, this is the girls source of income and if acting it up will keep you coming back and the $$$ flowing her way why not?!?! I learned this lesson years ago in strip clubs, thousands of dollars towards nothing other than a few hours, sometimes minutes, of enjoyment.I even kiss my bosses ass at work and it keeps me employed in these rough times. I'd say leave her alone and move on.... She made her choice to be that close to bad, is going to have to pay the consiquences of it, and now she hopefully can learn from it!

I didn't necessarily needed advice. I just wanted to write something about it to get it out of me and so I don't dwell on it. I actually had stopped seeing her for quite some time so I was over her. It was just sad to see the turn of events.

But thanks for the feedback. A part of me was planning to go to the sentencing hearing. But now that this is out of my system, I'm not going to anymore.

Be safe everyone!

this is a dangerous game for those with a tendency towards unrequited love. i'm wondering if you'll follow her prison career and maybe be her bitch until the BF gets out?

Good move. Whether or not she is guilty or innocent, any contact while she is under scrutiny could have brought heat on you.

I suggest giving her a call. She could probably use some money now and the sex, while not quite "conjugal visit sex" still might be pretty good.
