"MSC marquee completely blank..."

fighting the forces of evil since 1952...

I went to the doctor last nite in the City and we drove around for awhile to find places in SF that we'd never been to.

On the way back, we drove down Mission St. and on Market and drove by the MSC and saw the marquee complete blank with no lettering on it at all.

Never saw that before. Place was lit up and seemed open.

Never knew that 3rd Street literally dead ends into a streetcar tunnel. You cannot drive any further up the street.

My girlfriend had never seen Hunter's Point. She was amazed at all the bars, shutters, etc on the windows of businesses and homes.

Ben is currently out entertaining the Great Diaper but will later provide us all photos of the blank marquee at MSC.

It's also strange seeing the old donut shop at the corner of Market and 7th all boarded up. Lots of changes happening and not really for the better.

I saw that this moring as well. Strange to see but I suppose they are still figuring out what to post after having the Xmas come-on that filled up both sides of the marquee.

The business fronts between 5th street and 7th have alot of vacancies. Too bad about the donut shop at the corner of 7th and Market. It seemed to be a good location. The old Merrills Market next has been closed down for at least 5 years now.

Down the street towards 6th/Market the pool hall on the second floor has been closed for a number of years and directly below it the adult book store and of course that old strip clubs have been closed as well.

Closer to 5th street there was a huge sporting goods store that close and now the only time it is used is during the Halloween season.

I usually ride my bike to work down Market and I noticed the blank MSC marquee too. It usually provides a modicum of entertainment for me.

I've also noticed the abundance of vacant store fronts, ranging from Merril's to the old La Gals. You'd think that SOMETHING would be more profitable than nothing, but who knows. It seems like there's a lot more to Market Street real estate in the Civic Center area than meets the eye.

jjaxdaty, did you know the jones and golden gate lot has been booming these days? we had a mixer today at that corner, i'd wish you were there so we could chat and discuss the next best strip club that is scheduled to open very soon. yes, the old la gals will become the next best strip club in town, and beautiful ladies are lining up, and waiting in line from the back door entrance, to apply for the high class stripping position.

Ben, sorry I missed the mixer. I only made one visit to LA Gals and had a nice PS with one of the dancers - a little expensive but nice.

my bad, jjaxdaty. you missed the mixer, but you didn't miss much. that space was booming, but only for a nanosecond, not days. now, everything is dead again.

Very well done, Ben! This video deserves an award. We get a glimpse into the past and present as we ride along 7th and then turn onto Market.

But Please, keep your eyes on the road! And keep the camera inside the window... both hands on the steering wheel. Do not sacrifice safety for art.

Child zippy Pleazzze. it is perfectly safe for ben to travel along the mid market street corridor with no hand on the steering wheel. why? it is because ben does not live in a two dimensional world. as you know, fuckos like ben live in a 11 dimensional space, and you need to get used to it in this space-time continuum.

Falkie, it's safe to go back now. the letters are back in full force as recently as tonight - 01/10/10. i don't know why the marquee was completely blank when you drove by that space at that time, the only reason that i can give you is that you may have experienced some aliasing effect and/or diurnal effect. have you checked the star alignment at the time that you saw the blank marquee?
