"Is there a 1930 style cabaret in town?"

Instead of stepping into a strip club, I rather walk into a 1930s style club with my tuxedo, get a small round table that has a lamp on it, and order some whisky, watch a beautiful singer sing beside the piano. Just a little bit of stripping from time to time. Any club in San Francisco like that? Or they are completely gone?

If there was, it would be even less regarded than the Northbeach venues.

Shanghai 1930. This is (or was) a restaurant/jazz club. It's not a strip club, but then you weren't asking for one. There's a rumor that it's closed now, so best to call them to find out.

Pretty impressive musician line-up. The names on the music roster are no doubt extremely prolific Jazz artists. How do I know - I've never heard of ANY of those artists. In short; the most prolific and technically accomplished musicians are relativity unknown compared to Rock, Pop, R&B, and most importantly = RAP/HIP-HOP - just to make a point...

Of course you wouldn't know, AKA...SF is not 'hip', like Santa Cruz (Kuumbwa).

If you want informal jazz, are in the City over the weekend and like warmed over be-bop, try the DOGPATCH SALOON--every Sunday, 4-8PM. 3rd and 23rd streets... out past the ball park. You never know who is going to fall by and sit-in; last year I heard two violinists from the SF Symphony sit in and amaze everyone. Dogpatch is listed on SF_Gate in the 'dive' category.

$5 admission gets you all the free chili you can handle. Andrew Speight, house band on alto sax, is the Australian reincarnation of Charlie Parker...he will blow your mind..I once took Mercedes there on a Sunday and the musicians all lost track of the beat..LMAO.

Miss "M" is able to fill up any room with her awesome energy.

Never been to Kawumba Jazz center, but the last time a friend egged me to go, John McLaughlin was there with Chick Corea - among other contemporary/Fusion greats. I'm sure they host a distinguished line of traditional Be-boppers as well.

With all the odd meters those Jazz dudes play, I doubt if anyone noticed lol

No dude...FYI, this is straight ahead jazz as it has been played for decades...no fusion or independent meters from the drummer or bass...in fact you will always see an upright acoustic bass, a grand piano, etc. check it out.

Ah, I should have waited an extra minute or 2 before hitting the shower after my first post at 7:31 PM. I would have come up with an immediate reply

Not exactly 1930's style but try the SupperClub in SF.

http://www.supperclub.com/#/sanfrancisco/eng_index.html

Last time I went, enjoyed a first class meal, a bottle of wine, while lying down in bed while a stunning blond did a strip tease on the main floor.

You might want to get tiks to see Teatro Zinzanni. But not something you would go to alone, more of a small mixed group experience. Definitely funny, singing, food, wine...
