"Global Warming Anyone?"

The 9 September issue of The Economist contains a survey of articles on climate change, "The heat is on: A special report on climate change." It's 23 pages and like all of their special reports is fair and indepth. The following are two introductory paragraphs to articles that I believe show the rational approach the magazine takes:

"Climatology was once a rather peaceful science. Insulated by the long-term nature of its inquiries even from the passions aroused by weather forecasts. Now that it is being asked to predict the future of the world, it has understandbly become politicized and argumentative."

"Scientists are better at getting headlines than economists are: doom for the planet makes better copy than cost-benefit analyses. That may be why some economists feel that the issue has been captured by economically illiterate climatologists who do not seem to understand that mitigating climate change means spendinng real money now in exchange for uncertain benefits in a remote future. They have been working hard to put figures on the costs and benefits of climate change and of trying to mitigate it."

So those of you that take this issue seriously, spend $5 and do some heavy lifting to benefit your arguments let alone your own understanding and awareness.

Regards,

-L8inlife . . . but I get around to it eventually.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Everything is fine. It's just a bunch of screeching liberals. Don't worry about it.

And even if there is global warming, it's all Clinton's fault.

GW is a hoax. I mean they say it is so it must be. All the science and scientist that claim GW is real are all in on it because??? Well, I have yet to hear that argument but they are all in on it dammit! They are going to get something out of it otherwise they wouldn't try to cut into the oil corps profits...

That's how a Con thinks. Who needs facts when a good story filled with no truth will fit in nicely. Their rabid base doesn't demand the truth so why bother with it?

On a lighter note, I found it very humorous when Rev. Pat changed his mind on the subject after HE had to endure the heatwave. All the science in the world couldn't convince him but a few really hot days did the trick! Now that is some real insight...

Who is denying that GW can't happen. We cons understand that the planet has been cycling through climate change since it was created.

On the other hand, the way you think is that if the planet is warming it must be the fault of rich white American males.

I see it has all of one silly reply. Maybe you should start one called "Lawyers are desperate."

It has been cycling through changes as you claim. That is correct. As a matter of fact before this period there was a change that was called the death of everything living here. An ice age. Certainly that was a change wasn't it?

Is there a point hiding somewhere in there?

Okay I will spell it out for you. The planet does and has cycled through changes as you said. One of those changes was an ice age wherein every living thing on this planet died. So minimizing all of the changes as you attempted to do is maybe not the most intelligent approach. Is that clear enough for you?
