If gas price goes up any higher, I bet everyone will start stealing gas. It's not even that hard to pump gas out of somebody's car.

Watch, people will start stealing gas more often. It's already happening. I'm not even kidding.

Don't think locking gas caps prevents people from stealing gas. It's so easy to break that shit.

Fuck Bush for causing this whole gas price shit. FUCK YOU BUSH!

Ok Mr Sunshine...enlighten us -all- on how Bush is responsible for gas prices again?

Last I checked..it was a demand and refining thing, complicated by the futures market overreacting to many things.

But..Bush?

One would expect you can put more than 20-30 words around your theory on this.

Oh come on.
Has Bush raised or lowered the stability of the ME?
Let's talk reality.
The massive drop in Iraqi oil output.
The rhetoric against Iran, which is why they're flexing their oil muscle?

Postscript: don't forget the alleged coup attempt against Venezuela.

Or the Somali piracy due to the junta supported by Bush.

The list goes on and on and on...

Uh huh..and has the global supply of oil...dropped?

No.

Has it been..threatened?

No.

Have speculators played up simple fear?

Yes.

Bush has nothing to do with this, demand does, thats you, me, and a few billion others that use more, and more and more at a rate higher than total possible production into the future.

Not Bush's fault, open up the door, let in a little light. The US does not have control of the price of oil anymore.

Bush's policies are costing us relevance, but are not affecting the explosive growth in the third world for _oil_.

I already told you exports from Iraq have dropped, but that's not the main factor.

Bush has created the geopolitical instability which speculators are now exploiting, at our expense. There was zero rational reason for Bush to do this.

Rising demand in China and India is also a major factor.

A third consideration is that Bush has shattered confidence in the dollar, that plus his obnoxious foreign policy is driving countries to want to price oil in Euros or mixed basket of currencies.
If you think it's bad now, wait till oil isn't priced in dollars any more.

>Bush's policies are costing us relevance, but are not
>affecting the explosive growth in the third world for _oil_.

The predicate of your statement is incorrect, which is that rising developing-country demand is the only significant driver.

>The US does not have control of the price of oil anymore.

Agreed that the US does not have control of the price of crude; this is a pivotal event in the eclipsing of US power.
Stopping pricing oil solely in USD will be another pivotal event.
Resource wars in the ME Central Asia will be another event.

However as to the price of refined gasoline within the US, Bush has allowed anticompetitive mergers. So, that component is definitely his responsibility.

My gascap locking door was jammed once.

A gentle screwdriver application solved that in a couple seconds.

Does anyone still have locking gas caps?

I know that locking gas cap doors are almost universal, but I didn't know people still use locking gas caps.

Oh, ok. Well in that case perhaps you would like to lecture us on how there aren't tape decks in new cars anymore, or point out all the other obvious and mundane crap you can think of. That's SO much more interesting. Heaven forbid that you just not comment at all when you have nothing to say.

Your obsession with me remains transparent after all this time, AF.

Once a month you get on some chemical imbalance and dive bomb me out of the blue, then disappear for a while. And it's usually to make some personal observation which, I could point out, is off topic itself.

The pitiful part is not as much that you do it,but that sore loser followers like royal jim have to exploit the opportunity to pile on in the worst display of pointless neener neenerism I've seen in a while.

This is the new fuel to steal...

I started driving in the 70s and spent most of my life in urban environments. I've never known anyone who's had gas stolen from their vehicles.

Of course I'm not saying it doesn't happen.

I'm in the Southland, and there have been reports of thieves drilling holes in gas tanks to drain gas.

At least they're thinking outside the box!

While quite common before the advent of gas doors, we used to buy locking gas caps (made by Stant if memory serves correctly) for about $5 (1980s). The lock mechanicals were cheap and anyone with a blade screwdriver could remove the cap in about 30 seconds. Later the Japanese car makers started putting the locks on the doors as the doors are more secure. (but not much)

This is not unlike those with ability to break into a car with a wire coat hangar even with all the new fangled blocks and control devices available today.

I had my gas stolen in the burbs (San Mateo/Foster City) more than I had it stolen in the SF or Oakland. I'll add that the malls (anyone remember Fashion Island) and college were big too.

To go back to original poster . . .

There was a news report Tuesday evening (LA TV) about the rise in gasoline theft in SoCal.

I assume the thefts will take place on cars that take premium as putting regular in premium cards doesn't work that well. Either that or the old cars (back to the lock arugment)

Where are you getting that propaganda? You better check the first quarter reports of US crude oil imports. Iraq made $38 billion on their crude last year. This for a country of 25 million million people (smaller than Cal). Iraq is one of our top ten suppliers of crude oil. Canada is first (shale oil)
