I think if you had phrased it as a Republic more might guess correctly. I tend to think of it as a republican form of government, with a kleptocracy rife within it.

Well we could talk about a) what form of government it nominally conforms to, or b) who actually has power - which are two entirely different things. I mean, Singapore is nominally a parliamentary republic, Iraq a parliamentary democracy and Afghanistan an Islamic republic, but those are merely labels.

I voted Capitalist, which is the closest I could find to Corporate State.

As Abraham Lincoln noted back in 1864 already:

"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country... corporations have been enthroned and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed."

It was my vote too. And I largely agree with the sentiment of the "quote."
(But note that Lincoln didn't say this. In this regard it's a fake quote.)

I specifically posted a link (check it out) I posted to this essay with citations, because the legitimacy and origin of that quote is disputed:
http://www.ratical.org/corporations/Lincoln.html

The passage appears in a letter from Lincoln to (Col.) William F. Elkins, Nov. 21, 1864.

For a reliable pedigree, cite p. 40 of The Lincoln Encyclopedia, by Archer H. Shaw (Macmillan, 1950, NY). That traces the quote's lineage to p. 954 of Abraham Lincoln: A New Portrait, (Vol. 2) by Emanuel Hertz (Horace Liveright Inc, 1931, NY).

I don't see a category for fucked up and dysfunctional.

Can anybody pretend that our system of government is working?

Let's take the presidency.

The idea of the presidency was that we the people, in our infinite wisdom, would choose the most intelligent and capable person amongst us to lead us.

Is that what we have?

Hey for a change I agree with you.

Elected oficials tend to be fucked up and dysfunctional, the people best suited for the jobs do not pursue them, they find better ways to earn a living.

However , only an unbelievibly intelligent and capable person could pull off the 911 "plot".

So are they intelligent and capable or fucked up and dysfunctional to you?

I'll have to agree with Gore Vidal, when he asserts that 9/11 was the end of the Magna Carta, the foundation of all democracies. Until I see transparency in my government, My vote is a modern corporate version of fascism.
