Mom indicted in MySpace suicide case
Computer charges against woman whose daughter feuded with victim

updated 2:49 p.m. PT, Thurs., May. 15, 2008

LOS ANGELES - A federal grand jury on Thursday indicted a Missouri woman for her alleged role in perpetrating a hoax on the online social network MySpace against a 13-year-old neighbor who committed suicide.

Lori Drew of suburban St. Louis allegedly helped create a false-identity MySpace account to contact Megan Meier, who thought she was chatting with a 16-year-old boy named Josh Evans. Josh didn't exist.

Megan hanged herself at home in October 2006 after receiving cruel messages, including one stating the world would be better off without her.

Salvador Hernandez, assistant agent in charge of the Los Angeles FBI office, called the case heart-rending.

"The Internet is a world unto itself. People must know how far they can go before they must stop. They exploited a young girl's weaknesses," Hernandez said. "Whether the defendant could have foreseen the results, she's responsible for her actions."

I remember when this broke and saw a piece on it on a news show. I think the parents behavior is inexcusable, and in this case, criminal.

>I think the parents behavior is ... criminal.

I'm compelled to point out that you often accuse others of substituting opinion for facts.

I posted this issue here originally and all I said was
"It seems very unclear whether any criminal or civil wrongs were committed. ... Regardless what it constitutes in the legal domain, it's very sad."

It's trivially easy to showboat AFTER the criminal indictment has been brought (as you are doing) and say "I think the parents behavior is criminal".
But is the above your opinion, or fact, or trying to make a claim after the fact of the indictment, or just stating the obvious that an indictment has been handed down?
Note that Missouri LE had already looked into prosecuting the case and backed off, although the state did retrospectively pass a cyberstalking law.
Maybe we could send you to Missouri to educate all the federal prosecutors over there.

People have lives Longdong....you wouldn't understand.

I think it's important for all to see exactly how chickenshit you have been here without provocation on my part.

~I'm compelled to point out that you often accuse others of substituting opinion for facts.~

I'm compelled to point out that you are guilty of that daily, and I am covered on this issue by saying the words "I think".

Nowhere did I try to represent my views as fact, instead only as my opinion.

You, however, try to substitute your views as fact on a daily basis, and reap the decimation of your arguments by other posters as a result.

~I posted this issue here originally and all I said was
"It seems very unclear whether any criminal or civil wrongs were committed. ... Regardless what it constitutes in the legal domain, it's very sad."~

It's also important to note that your statements on the matter ("It seems very unclear whether any criminal or civil wrongs were committed. ... Regardless what it constitutes in the legal domain, it's very sad.") were no factor at all when I chose to state MY views.

Do you understand that? See, my comments have NOTHING TO DO WITH YOU!

I did not even comment in your previous link!

You do understand that other people besides yourself have the ability to read the news, watch the news, and formulate their own opinions without the input of "Kalem-e-scope" vision, don't you?

Lastly, I can hardly believe you're claiming I am "showboating" for communicating my views. For some odd reason, you don't seem to grasp the concept that I am not a tortured handwringer, as you are, and tend not to post these issues on a daily basis (at 2 a.m.) as you do...therefor, when the topic DOES arise, as it has here, I THEN CHOOSE to communicate a thought if I am inclined to do so.

"Showboating" has absolutely nothing to do with it, except within that strange convoluted labyrinth you call a brain.

Please, desist from commenting about me any further. I made no comments about you in my initial post here, and have no urge to have another pointless argument with you yet again....which is exactly what you are TRYING to create. Get a different hobby.

Basic reporting has gotten really sloppy in this country. They indicted her--fine. I don't know that I disagree. But, they indicted her for what? What is the charge? There is probably a pretty good one, but you wouldn't know from this article. How about including the important information in the first paragraph?
