"AMP vs CAMTC"

One of the compadre here mentioned that CAMTC is now in control of the "voluntary" CMT process in CA. This has cause a ripple effect with the AMPs that I frequented. Most of the RAs that I know of received their license from schools that the CAMTC doesn't approved of. As such, they can not get insurance to do their work, especially if they are in a city that follow CAMTC instead of the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education (BPPVE). This might cause many RAs to seek employment elsewhere, close business,etc... and may narrow the choices of entertainment for us RBers smaller. Have any of my brethren hear any thing different or new?

What you describe is not too different from how San Mateo countered the rash of AMPs that sprang up along 101 in the early 90's. They instituted a written licensing test that would have been difficult for a med student, let alone an RA. In short, LE couldn't stop them with unannounced visits, so city governments found a way to legislate them out of business.

There are about 18 schools, mostly chinese run, many in the greater Los Angeles area that are not accredited by the CAMTC.

Truth be told, many RA's "bought" their 500 hour diplomas from these "schools" for about $1,500.00, never actually attended any classes, taking a shortcut to getting licenses years ago in various localities. Now that there is a governing board statewide, these schools have been revealed for what they are.

This is sad but true.

First of all, no massage school has been given the authrority of issuing CMT license. They only provide the certification of training completion which is a prerequisite of getting a CMT license from the city where the CMT works. Most of the CMTs work in the AMPs are not licensed either by the respective cities or the state of CA. Now that CAMTC has taken the intiative to stremline the CMT/CMP licensing process, many of those unlicensed self trained (or purchased a certification of completion from dubious institutions)CMTs are finding themselves lost. I bet most of the AMPs' unlicensed CMTs will not be able to complete the CAMTC's license application rest alone the process. They also have to get their finger print live scan cleared by FBI. How many of those girls dare to do that? The end result is that they will sign up for AAMPs and RBers will have better time in near future.
