"Belmont Massage Parlors in Ch 2 10PM News"

I kind of missed the news story on Ch 2 10PM news about massage parlors in the city of Belmont.

Did anyone see it and if so, what was said?

Is it "safe" to go to MPs in Belmont these days?

Thanks.

Glad I don't live in CA!

You know, this is another bullshit move for a fascist state/city, to supress blue collar workers to make any kind of money. The government really loves to pull the rug from hard working people.

The rich get richer and the poor gets really poor. In this case, the rich control the strings and gets to manipulate the environment around them.

Forget George Orwell's novel, this reality crap is insanely REAL!

Prostitution Concerns Raised Over Belmont Massage Parlors

Posted: 10:27 pm PDT July 26, 2010
Updated: 10:49 pm PDT July 26, 2010

BELMONT, Calif. -- Concerns about prostitution have infiltrated the quiet peninsula city of Belmont as the city manager raised questions about massage parlor employees in the wake of a state group discrediting a number of schools that provide training for massage licenses.

Belmont has ten massage establishments and 47 registered massage therapists. Police said 37 of those therapists have gone to massage schools or received training that a state group has deemed illegitimate.

So Belmont wants a one year moratorium on any new massage permits while the current massage establishments are re-checked.

Susan Fleming, who works at the Relaxation Center, said she has been a Belmont massage therapist for 17 years and under the guidelines of a new state law has been certified by the California Massage Therapy Council.

“There's a distinction between legitimate massage therapy and adult entertainment,” said Fleming. “If somebody has this, it demonstrates that they have all the qualifications that someone would need who has gone to a accredited school.”

Belmont City Attorney Mark Zafferano issued a memo to city council members that stated the illegitimate schools serve as "a conduit for sex workers who then set up illegitimate massage businesses across the state."

Joy Zhou owns the Bay Health Center, which has been in business for eight years. She has eight massage therapists, some who were schooled in China at institutions that are not on the approved list.

Through a translator, she explained that she was concerned about the certification of some of her workers.

“She is aware of the list, but she thinks that's not fair because when they went to the school at that time, it was considered to be legitimate and certified,” said Zhou through her translator.

Still, Belmont police want to hold off on any new massage therapists until they can re-check the current ones.

“This industry is ripe for some abuse and the city as a regulatory agency has a responsibility to the public that if they go to a city licensed facility that it is professional and meets the appropriate standards,” Belmont Police Lt. Patrick Halleran.

The Belmont City Council will take up what's being called an urgency ordinance to deal with the massage issue Tuesday night.

Belmont police emphasized that there have been no arrests of massage therapists in the city for prostitution.

What if they received thier training out of State, or at an institution that they State does not recognize as legitimate.

Many CMT's recieve training out of country. What other training and education will the State de-certify next?

The State of California itself has no licensing requirements for any alternative health care provider including massage therapists. There is no state certification. Belmont itself may have some local regulations.

Actually, the State of California recently (Jan 1 2009) put into place a statewide certification and licensing program for massage therapists. San Francisco accepts both, for the time being, since they already had their own licensing program.

   Slightly different angle too-

"80% of all massage parlors in Belmont are whorehouses!"

The whole thing seems to be an issue of one city counsel dude who's wife probably found his hobby phone and he is pulling the righteous indignation routine to avoid a financially devastating divorce.

>Not suprised. One of the more conservative cities in San Mateo County.

In the state legislature Belmont is located in the 8th Senate District, represented by Democrat Leland Yee, and in the 19th Assembly District, represented by DemocratJerry Hill. Federally, Belmont is located in California's 14th congressional district, which is represented by Democrat Anna Eshoo.

Don't know what your point is bolding Democrats. But I think we can safely assume both Democrats and Republicans hate prostitution and use it as an agenda to help their campaigns. It's all about manipulating the public eye.

Totally agree. At least the Democrats aren't as hypocritical as the Republicans. The Republicans are always talking about this morality bullshit and starting useless wars and caught with their pants down in airline stalls getting their knobs shined by the guy next door! (in the other stall).

I'm for the Tea Party.

Many of the bros are so ignorant. Massage therapy is and has been a licensed profession. Until September 2009, the licenses for massage therapists, CMT were administered by the CA cities where the therapists practiced their profession. In the SF Bay Area all cities except for San Jose had the similar policy regarding massage establishment and therapist licensing procedures. San Jose did not allow massage only establishment unless in a large shopping mall (larger than 25,000 sft) and the therapist could get licensed by the city if they were working with a salon, spa or other alternative health service providers. With effect from September 2009, in state of California there is an autonomous body called California Massage Therapist Council (CAMTC) www.camtc.org who undertook the state wide CMTs licensing program. Based on this change many of the cities in CA have abandoned their own CMT licensing program. Any massage practitioner with a CAMTC license can work for any massage parlor in CA including San Jose. It only make sense that like Belmont, many of the CA cities will start hunting down the unlicensed massage therapists (prostitutes) in order to promote and protect the CAMTC interest. Good news for RBers. At least 75% of the TAMP/AMP girls with no qualification of obtaining CAMTC license will soon be joining AAMPs. More supply drives the price down when demand is unchanged.
