The menu, of why men, and perhaps some women like the "liaison", for money, or for compensation "in kind" (quid pro quo) are widely varied, but almost all the time linked with HUMAN issues, IMHO:1..Some of the men, in fact, just want the companionship of a woman, to talk, go to dinner, exchange ideas, vent (about life or an SO)
Thus, they respond to ads, promising companionship, listening, intelligent conversation, an upbeat attitude.
2. Some men, and women...are drawn to the offer of pure, raw sex,
perhaps a rarity in their relationship, if they have one...sort of a "supplement". Or they may just be plain HORNY!
3. Some men, and women, are drawn to the "conquest" mystique, for very little financial output, as opposed to "courting, dating and , marriage costs". This approach seems/appears to be an HONEST, straightforward, and DIRECT way to cover all their intentions portrayed in Items 1-3 above, all inclusive.
4. Some men and women see this as a cathartic process to diminish the HUMAN value of a woman or man with the labels of Johns and
Whores.
5. Finally, this seems to be perceived as a platform for quick financial success, enabling the goal oriented woman, to achieve
quick results to meet her future goals as an entrepreneur.
The reality is: The male of the species, probably all the way back to the "Adam/Snake/Eve" scenario, has priced the woman's "special assets, empowered her to barter for their value, and leverage as an asset. Man, thus has ENABLED the behavior, used it as barter with other men (commercially) for gain, whether it was psychological, political, or material.
Women, on the other hand, particularly in a challenged/abusive environment, have (at least psychologically) sensed the intrinsic, seemingly material value of their "assets", particularly, if they were raped, abused, bartered in an early age. Again, THE MALE OF THE SPECIAL (predominantly) EMPOWERED HER to these feelings/discoveries.
So, when able to, or as a survival card, not use it?
I met a provider SEVEN YEARDS AGO, who had quit the business out of respect for her (then) little son, and encumbered upon a "straight" path. shortly thereafter she became a "born-again christian".
Ti this day she punishes herself, almost daily, for her past SINS.
she has turned from an smart, self-assured, energetic woman into a whining, co-dependent, dull and unimaginative person. Her confession to me, when I first met her..."I love sex" and this was just right for me...I can do it AND GET PAID!
So, this is just a slice of my understanding of why women become "hookers" and men become "Johns". Although I don't like the one-sided perspective of Ms Sawyer, she has stirred the discussion, and perhaps, in time, we gain a bit more understanding in the HUMAN dynamics evidenced (just a scratch) in this "special".
