"Dinner And Dancing in Sacramento?"

Where is your favorite place to dine, if you were taking some one special out, what would you reccommend?

The last time I was in town, I visited a place near Tapa the World, and they had a hot belly dancer and a lil live music! And some really good drinks

Hi Ava, I like Zocalos on Capital and 18th for Mexican food. Good food and drinks. Also close to other cool spots that are walking distance.

What about that place called "Three Monkeys" or something like that. I remember it is right near where they have the ice skating, across from Hard Rock. OMG, that spicey, honey glazed shrimp is the Bomb! lol Is that place still there?

I was asking because I want to take moms somewhere kool, but I have already taken her to a lot of places either on J street, or Old Sac. Maybe Fat City and then to the chocolate factory

Thanx guys!

Ava... check out the Chocolate Factory!!! just txt me when you're on your way so I can tidy up.

jk, hey... on a serious note: Go to Morgan's Central Valley Bistro for a "chill" dinner, cool bar, and some live music. Then stumble over with moms to Parlare, two blocks away, for a few more cocktails in a trendy bar/lounge setting.

If you get a sweet tooth, the Chocolate Factory is open 24x7

Enjoy Sactown

Don't do Zocalos EVER! omg I took my father there for his B-day! The food was so bad! It looked like dog food! I can't believe that place stays open. The chips are even old! It's the location and the drinks! I love to eat in midtown and that place is a waste of space and money. Taco bell is a better choice for food. But if u just want to drink its nice to sit outside on a hot summer nite and drink. Just don't order any food!

Damn! I must have got lucky on the food. LOL!! It's not the best but to say taco bell is better is a stretch.

For something special it would be The Kitchen, no question.

Dancing can be found lots of places.

I agree with HappyJack that The Kitchen would be the most "special" place to go. It is unlike any dining experience you'll have anywhere else. It is also the most expensive place in town ($125 per person plus tax and tip, though they charge "retail" for the wine, not restaurant mark up), and you usually have to make reservations well in advance.

Another good place for dinner is The Waterboy in midtown.

No dancing at either place, though.

Have fun!

For dinner only: The Melting Pot in downtown area. Wonderful fondue and a relaxing way to eat dinner. It takes a little longer but you enjoy the meal and the talking with each other.

Oh yes, the Kitchen. Thanks for the reminder. It's been awhile. Clearly the best restaurant--which really is an inadequate term to describe the dining experience there--in the Sacramento region, and in the top 3 of the best I have ever had--anywhere.

Slocum House is quite romantic, esp. the patio this time of year. Live jazz music on weekends. I don't think the food is quite as good as it was before changing ownership, though. Still better than lots of places around Sac, but I wouldn't call it exceptional anymore

For dancing, don't know if anyone is into swing, or interested in learning, but there are two cool venues in Sac. Midtown Stomp Friday nights. It's a mostly young crowd--20's 30's, not a pickup scene, but you will see some of the best swing dancing outside of a commercial or 40's movie. Free lesson. Club 21 on Tues. nights. A bit older crowd, 20's-40's. It has a bar. Midtown Stomp does not.

Harlow's has some good bands and different styles of music on different nights--Salsa on Sunday nights for example. The food there is pretty good.

For blues the Torch Club, but crowded on weekends.

The Power House Pub in Folsom is lots of fun too. Mostly cover bands, crowded dance floor on weekends. Some blues. Chicago Fire deep dish pizza right therel. Might be a wedding group all gussied up, or a biker club. Or the two mixed together. You never know. Old town Folsom is a fun place to walk around and hit the other bars like the Hacienda, too.

I've had the pleasure of going to The Kitchen since it's inception off of Marconi in Carmichael. It's amazing.

I've tried to tell people about it, and many, once they here the price per couple say "Oh, I would NEVER pay that much for dinner". When I've finally been able to persuade then to go, they all say the same thing:

"I had no idea it was like that..it was worth every penny and I want to do it again".

Says a lot.

The Kitchen is great, but $125 a person doesnt fully describe the REAL COSTS. Unless you don't drink, its impossible to get out of The Kitchen for less than $350. At $125 a person x 2 plus tax you are already at $270, throw in 20% tip and before taking a single drink you are at $325. A bottle of wine or two and you are facing $400-500. I love that place....but not a good place for a 1st date as it sets the bar too high! Its all downhill from there!

A) I did not list and prices. Someone else did.

B) You can bring your own wines since you generally know what they're serving if you check the website and pay the corkage.

C) Who said anything about it being a place for a first date? I didn't, and neither did the OP. She asked for a good place to take someone SPECIAL out, and it IS a special place.

Please pay attention in the future.

   HJ

Sorry if you took my post as a personal attack on you. It was not meant to be anything except informative since you and at least one or two others had mentioned The Kitchen.

Someone did mention pricing at $125 a head..$250 for two people sounds a little more tolerable than $400 to most of us, so I was simply clarifying "ends costs". And bringing your own wine is still a cost of aquiring the wine from home, and with a $20 per bottle corkage fee you'll still be out that additional cost as well.

And as for the original question, I am well aware that it did not mention if it the "special someone" was a parent, a spouse/SO, a child, a group of friends, or a date. I believe The Kitchen to be the best dining experience in Sacramento. However, IMHO, its uniqueness doesn't make it the ideal setting for every "SPECIAL" circumstance. So my "first date" comment was 'half' intended as a mere "heads up", and 'half' as a joke.

If I were gonna drop 4 bills, I'd rather have dinner at Ella and spend the night at The Citizen, but since the question wasn't "whats the best way to spend 4 bills on a night out with Someone Special"...I'll retract this paragraph.

Hope that clarifies and takes me off your Hit List. =)
