I'm a big fan of originals, and now they are doing remakes of films and songs all over the place. Some of them are admirable.

   Yes, they do a good job on Stairway - they've been doing Zep tunes in their shows since the 70's.

It's rare that I actually can listen to a remake of an original I like. I'm a big fan of Led Zeppelin, so with their songs I'm even less forgiving. Neither of the ones above impressed me....but there's one band that has done many Zeppelin remakes and every one has wowed me: Great White.

Love ya Keefer but I don't think I'll ever agree that anything Great White remakes of Zeppelin could hold a candle to the original.
Not bad though.

How about Hendrix's version of All Along The Watchtower being better than Bob Dylan's version- even though Dylan wrote the song? Bob Dylan wrote some great songs, but that voice of his.....
I like Hendrix's better, personally. Then again, I'm a Hendrix freak, of sorts.

Oh....don't get me wrong, babe. I'm a die hard, dyed in the wool Led Zeppelin fan. There is no one that comes close to them for me...but Great White is the only band I've ever heard do Zep covers that actually impress me. They keep the fidelity that I would look for in a Zeppelin cover; they don't ruin it by trying to make it their own version.

Some covers of other artists that are done in totally different ways, I enjoy as much as the original (like when Johnny Cash covered Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" - it's friggin' awesome to me). But Led Zeppelin remains sacrosanct to me. The reason I like them so much is that, IMO, they are so far the only band I have ever found who didn't make a bad song. Every other artist I've listened to, I can find a song or two (or many more) that makes me think, "why the F did they record that?!" Not so with Led Zeppelin...

I agree with Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower being far superior to Dylan's original. Like you, I can't stand Dylan - I'd rather have railroad spikes driven into my eardrums than listen to his music. But I do love me some Jimi...Voodoo Child being one of my favorites - that F'in guitar riff is a classic!

Here you go a cover band of Led Zepplin I saw a couple of weeks ago in Santa Cruz. Visually and sound pretty good and similiar in detail to Zepp of the 1970's.
