Holy smokes, if you've been offered a free pass - go! Tickets cost about $300 now! You'll easily meet people and have fun. I went 6 years in a row but have not gone back for 4 years. Prefer the smaller desert parties now.

After decades of being comfortable with my viewpoint, you are the first to make me regret how much I can't stand camping...

Camping at burning man is quite different than regular camping. The sulphurous smell of the dust alone is a deterrent. I've been before, I would much rather spend a week away in some foreign country rather than waste money on a party in the desert. But that is just my opinion plenty of people would disagree I'm sure.

I love the desert but can do without the stinky noisy technohippies. Try camping on Black Rock playa some other time of year.

"Try camping on Black Rock playa some other time of year."

True, the rest of the year you can go to all the hotsprings on the edge of the playa. During Burning Man they close them off - for good reason.

Either time, it's fun camping in Black Rock. Just different experiences.

I'm with you on this one too... I have gone and enjoyed myself, however, the expense it takes to go in the style & comfort of an RV, + 5 star camp fees, + the ticket, + the recovery time... well, in the end it means it has cost me around $500/per day. I most certainly would rather be on a luxury vacation in another country!

I've heard some outrageous stories about burning man. As much as I'd love to go, work schedule wont allow it.

To all those going: Rock out and be safe

Ill be there! I can't wait to dance my butt off! I LOVED it last year!!! It is an amazing space, a temporary commnunity based on art, sharing, and evolution. its on a dried up lake, considered holy land from the natives there. there is a leave no trace policy and people are very respectful. well, at least last year they were in my experience! ill post some nice pix when i get back. xXxL

I have to admit that I love hearing about it from the providers that go every year, but have certainly heard enough to know that I would probably hate it myself, so enjoying it vicariously will be good enough for me.

Jenna,

Hope you have a great time at Burning Man.

Now, I don't want to rain on anyone's parade ... but, it's been my observation that the current Burning Man is a shadow of what it used to be. IMHO, it's become too commercialized.

Cheers,
- blue thrills

It’s always amusing to read personal or philosophical reasons why not to go.

For those who feel they can maintain their comfort bubble by choosing exactly what they believe will be an experience that isolates them from less comfortable situations, yes, one could spend the same or less money and lie on a beach in Cozumel or just buy a new HD TV and watch BluRay movies for a week.

However, to spend a week at BurningMan will absolutely, without a doubt, bring a new awareness of some aspect of your self that may never be realized in any other environment.

If personal growth is something you seek, you could meditate in lotus until your legs fall off, or go to every seminar at Esalen, or become a raw foodie, or practice Tantra with the most grounded/spiritual partner on the planet, all that good stuff, but for sure, you wouldn’t get smacked with a breakthrough that can’t come from any other situation than the severe conditions of BurningMan.

But I can’t guarantee that if you rent an RV and try to isolate yourself from discomfort…LOL

That's true. What I learned around day three is: underwear is optional. Actually I re-learn this every time I visit Black Rock.
