"one more commentary on 'the lover'"

the film is beautiful, in many ways (they sure got the set decor & costumes right), but I MUST recommend reading the book by the magnificent Marguerite Duras-- her words are spellbinding. Also other stuff she wrote. I just finished reading her essays about working in the Resistance & bits of her experience in the aftermath of Paris as part of that group.

Truly, see the film AND read the book. Damn good.

in red lipstick & literature,
Miranda.

Duras also wrote the screenplay for the magnificent "Hiroshima, Mon Amour", which, while not as sexually explicit as "The Lover", is still intensely sensual, provocative and heart-breaking.

I echo your sentiments on the book. I just ordered the movie, and I am looking forward to viewing it.

Not sure if someone already mentioned this, but "Lady Chatterley's Lover" by D. H. Lawerence is another classic. The book is just awesome, and the movie is not shabby either.

Cheers,
- blue thrills
