My answer to your hypothetical question would depend on the animal I saw, the plant I saw, whether or not I was hungry, and if I was......HOW HUNGRY..........after that it all a matter of personal taste.........and how tough a critter we're talkin' about here.

Its a tough question! Also, what if the endangered plant is the primary source of nutrition for the endangered animal!

What to do, what to do.. lol I doubt most of us will ever be put in this predicament, but it sure is a brain exercise to prepare for if it ever does happen!

Well, the first thing I would do is to figure out which would taste better. That is the first I would eat. hopefully, it is the animal, that way I could roast it over and open fire on a spit, after I killed it and skinned the fur off like a sock, then while it was cooking, I could steam the endangered plant. That would be a twofer.

Ah what the heck, I'm High, so I'll bite...your question is a random but not a DEEP question, per se...its rather vague...but then again I'm High, so I'll give it a shot.

If its some sort of flesh eating human type of endangered animal eating an endangered plant, regardless, if I'm High or not, I am not Going to do sheeeit, that craygee aminal can eat that plant all it wants, just tape it like there goes the endangered plant...but then again, it depends on the endangered plant...is it some rare Marijuana plant that we haven't cloned yet? Oh Hells to the Nooo, I will fight that endangered mothereffer with my tooth and nails!! I will have to close line that aminal repeatedly! Then I would BBQ that craygee thing to a golden crisp...I love Fried Food.

Then again, if I was hired to protect these two entities from one another...I would look for the tranquilizer stun gun....POP...that crazy aminal is lights out, baby...then move the precious endangered plant to a different location, far away from the craygee aminal. See easy no more problem. 123, ABC.

I would either scare off the endangered animal or build a structure to protect the endangered plant. Now if the endangered plant was to only food for the endangered animal I say "fuck it". Eat the animal and let the plant perish since one can't survive without the other.

..talk dorky to me baby

guess it depends?

i mean, as an example: there are only 2 king cheetahs left in all of the Americas. I happen to be really friendly with one, at a wildlife org that I volunteer at.

Anyway...

There would be no way in hell that I would turn a cheetahs attn over to me, instaed of that plant. Yes, I know cheetah eat meat, but I couldn't think of another example this late...

I mean, if you try to protect the plant from a dangerous endangered animal, you're putting yourself in trouble.

I'm curious where this question came from?

Never seen anything posted like this before and I'm a little curious.

I can't remember where I got the question from but I always find stuff like this. I was thinking that if enough people participate then I might post one every once and a while. Some of them are very funny ones. A lot are questions that no one ever thinks or wonders about.

As you have set up the situation -- it wouldn't surprise me if the animal was endangered BECAUSE the endangered plant was its primary food source!

So I would simply let the animal eat the plant. Oh, I'd also whip out my digital camera and document it.

And since human destruction of habitat is the primary reason that living things end up on the endangered species list, I'd look into what was being done to giving both that plant and the animal more habitat, and how I might participate.

How the hell would i know either is endangered? If somehow i magically knew, it would depend on how big the animal was. I'd probably take him home and make a pet of him.

what, me worry?

It's nature. Let nature happen. No skin off me...

I'd leave the hand-wringing to those who obsess about mankind being responsible for every perceived problem in the world.

First off i don't give a shit what another animal eats as long as it isn't me and secondly who the fuck decides whether something is endangered or not...natural selection should be able to run its course without us humans getting involved because history shows us we will fuck it up. Can you just imagine if dinosuars where saved from extinction we would be living in a completely different world if we even existed at all.
I can"t believe a actually responded to such a stupid question!!!!!

Tell that to the poachers who kill the poor animals to the point of extinction..

There are a lot of people who care about this sort of thing and don't think its stupid at all. I guess stuff like this just doesn't spark your interest, and thats fine, but you don't have to be so mean about it =/

In a way, this begs the question:

At what point did mankind lose its membership in that worldwide club called "nature"?

Don't get me wrong...I'm not for killing animals indiscriminately just for one or two parts of their body (i.e. elephant ivory, rhino horn, shark fins [shark finning REALLY pisses me off]); responsibility is key. But the name of the game in nature is adapt or die out. We are not exempt, and our adaptability is what makes us so successful. But mankind is absolutely a part of nature, so whether one likes it or not, what we do is absolutely "natural." Regardless of what organizations like WWF would have everyone believe, Earth will not spiral into meltdown at the loss of species. Nature abhors a vacuum.

Luvmenot,

I applogize if i hurt your feelings that wasn't my intent... sweetie. But sometimes i shoot my mouth off before thinking. i was just looking more at it from the point of view that every living animal has the right to survival so who am I or the human race to say what they can or cannot consume to survive.
As far as your poacher comment i couldn't agree more with you but thats kinda a different issue then what i read into your original post, sorry. Its sad but true that man will destroy beautiful things because of greed...money can be the root of all evil

Have a great day

First, I'd wonder how I know both the plant and the animal are endangered because I'm neither botanist nor veterinarian. Then I'd realize I have absolutely no idea about what I've seen.

Next, I'd consider that as a "civilized" human I'm very detached from the fact that humans are animals and that most of us are so used to seeing pre-packaged bits/pieces/parts in a grocery store, we often ignore/forget the fact we'd all starve if someone didn't farm, hunt, etc. (or worse we'd have to do that hunting ourselves).

Subsequently, if in the open and not a controlled environment (like a zoo), I'd make sure to leave the scene immediately in case the rare plant isn't enough to satisfy the animal's appetite or the animal brought along friends because I don't work for NatGeo and therefore have no need to take such risks.

Finally, I'd go to a restaurant, order sushi and a steak to go along with my glass of wine and ponder what I just witnessed.

---

Now allow me to ask a similar question . . .

Does a woman who desires a diamond consider the lives lost while she pines away at her favorite jeweler?
