"Power Exchange to be at 220 Jones St"

Ironically the latest re-incarnation of the Power Exchange will be in the site formerly occupied by the infamous Pink Diamonds strip club. And yes, still in the heart of the tenderloin. Some of you may recall that up until three years ago, that site was under another ownership and called Club Paree. Club Paree had a Tuesday night TS striptease show that rivaled Divas Darlings and Naughty Schoolgirls.

They must have lost a lot of money on the other building. That wasn't open very long. Better luck in the new place.

Compared to the previous location on Gough how much space does this location have?

I remember the location previous to Gough and that was really cramped.

If it really is next to a preschool I can't imagine it will stay open long

I don't think the city is going to stop hassling the owners of PE. The place where ever it is, or is going to be, is a political social land mine, and if PE does get permits, so the city can void the harassment complaints, the ABC will always be in the place along with the Health dept. and PCSFPD from the southern divisions unit dedicated to shutting down "problem" clubs, and its always easy to find a violation or two or three.

IMO What someone needs to do is buy some large space out 3rd street and totally trick it out with great sound, a long bar, some good visuals -in a lounge type setting and provide "social" rooms with flat screen viewing on the outside of the rooms which are also tied to the bar just for starters. I think the idea of a place like the power exchange rocks, problem is the power exchange idea has not changed with the city. The old location protected the PE as the place became sort of a city landmark. IMO what the owners of PE are finding out its its hard to move the brand just anywhere. We need a place to go besides cool ass places like Diva's. Just my two cents.

Jay, Billy, and Lewis,

To answer some of your questions:

I don't think the pre-school can keep PE away. After all, the location has been a strip club for years and the pre-school couldn't get them to leave back then. Besides, the PE's hours are 9 PM to 5 AM so there shouldn't be any conflict with kids being around at that time.

As far as space, it's about the same as the Mason St. location if any of you have been there during its brief existence. It's smaller than Otis St, but much larger than the original Harrison St location.

The PE does not serve or sell alcohol so the ABC will not be involved. But yes, the Health Dept and SFPD will certainly be monitoring it as well as the Planning Dept for any building code violations.

I have never been to the PE. I can't wait for it to open. I have heard so many different opinions on it; Nevertheless, I think it's probably one of those things you have to experience yourself at least once in your life. Does anyone know if they are going to announce when its first day open will be? Or is it open already? Someone please let me know when it's open or post it on here!

Wow, tonight! Thanks for the post. It said Fri. and Sat. are free this weekend. I plan on going this Sat. night, so for those of you who have been there before, what's a good time to show up? Is there anything I need to bring or leave at home? Thank you!

Free??? Where did you read that? It's free only if you are female or transgender, so unless you intend on putting on a dress and wig it will cost you $40 (still a discount over their normal prices) on Friday or Saturday.

It opens at 9PM, but the crowd doesn't usually show up until 11 PM or midnight. And then there's another peak at 2 AM when all the bars close.

Gosh, they are sure getting the run around it seems.

I hope they succeed in the new location.

We went once to the old location, which was a little rough and scary.

Why does the city want to close them up? I provides people with a safe and private place. It's not like people aren't going to have sex if the PE is gone. It just moves more into the public realm.

If you go, remember to cover your ass...

LOL,
TS Jamie

Vegas PE aint worth it. Went on a Friday night, clientele ranged from a couple of unattractive TS's, 3-4 cd's, a few couples doing their S&M thing, and 15 guys wandering around wondering where any worthwhile action was.

Well, PE has been open for two days now. Just wondering if anyone has gone yet? Is it as good as it should be or does the new location bring less people in? I'm planning on going tonight to see what all the hype is about.

Initial reports from a few weeks ago included a rumor that it would be open 7 nights a week. However, it is currently only open Thurs thru Sun. 9PM-3AM on Thurs & Sun and 9PM-5AM on Fri & Sat.

I was there on Saturday night and M. Powers greeted me outside. I didn't ask if they were going to open every night in the future but I imagine it's still possible.

The Jones St. location is smaller than Otis St one but slightly larger than Mason St. Once it is fully furnished with dungeon furniture for the S&M, B&D aficionados it has the potential to be even better than Otis St was.

The ground floor still has the large stage and runway the strippers used and also the multitude of very comfortable chairs surrounding it. This is the area the main dungeon will be located in the future. On Saturday there was some light whipping activity taking place on the stage.

Upstairs there is a balcony on one side that runs the length of the room below. The balcony also has plenty of seating. In the back of the second floor there are a few additonal rooms for group play and viewing under subdued lighting.

The basement has about 10 small rooms with chairs and curtains for privacy. These rooms are where the strippers took their lap dance customers to in the past. Ideally suited for couples, but up to 4 more people can squeeze in to watch if the couple allows them to. There are also a couple of larger rooms which appeared to be unfinished yet. Lighting in the basement is subdued. Bright lighting and the lack of semi-private spaces was the main complaint about the Mason St. site. And even though the overall size of the building is smaller than Otis St, there are actually more semi-private rooms here.

Saturday night's crowd was quite large and there was plenty of activity going on. Of course it was the opening weekend and there was a reduced price for the men since the club is still being worked on for further improvements, but I think the attendance will remain high at this location. As usual, the men greatly outnumbered the TG's and GG's but there are still plenty of us to go around.

>What a great neighborhood.

Even though it's in the heart of the tenderloin it's not as bad as most people think it is. The street is very well lit, the district police station is right across the street, PE's security force is out in front on the street, and there's no longer the presence of the hip hop gangsta thugs that use to hang out in front when it was Pink Diamonds.

Well jones street is not a real safe place, I used to visit a girl that lived across the street from there, it's a real bad area, plus if it is by a preschool I don't think it should be around there either, what ever time it is open. Just my two cents

Hi Deanna,

Thanks for the scouting report. Are there separate areas like in Otis, i.e. a male-only section and a mixed section?
