"Rush/Poppers....Whippits"

Been asking this on a couple of other forums and have not had much discussion.

I used Rush quite often in the 70's and 80's during sex. Have not done so for years and was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience, or knowledge about health risks? An internet search didn't have much. As I get older, I now take into consideration the adverse side as well.

Also, never tried whippits during sex. Are they used in the same manner as Rush/poppers? I liked to inhale just as I neared orgasm.

Thanks

the only poppers I've ever tried were the ones sold in the bars. Butyl Nitrate. First bunch of times I got the hyperventilation buzz. After that, it was all headaches, little buzz. At my age, maybe I should keep some around in case I have a coronary.

Poppers and Viagra could mean sudden death! I knew there was bad juju for us old guys if we use V....this is from a 2001 article. with my (wikipedia-like) edits...

( That AWESOME RUSH.... yep that rush right before you black out and are either ripped off by your provider or hauled off to the ER cuz you are unconscious, well it's simply amazing. And the feeling of a giant Chinook Salmon thrashing about in your chest, in the place where your heart should be, well it simply should not be missed boys! And for us married guys, imagine the warm feelings your wife will have upon meeting your concerned sex-worker there in the ER!) And as previously mentioned...the mother of all headaches....a double sided migraine!

The drugs

Viagra, a prescription drug used to offset erectile dysfunction, is quickly gaining the reputation as a popular club drug, allowing men to have longer sexual experiences when other substances render them temporarily impotent. Many (older) men use Viagra for its intended purpose: an answer for persistent erectile dysfunction.

Also seeing an increase in use are alkyl nitrates, known socially as "poppers," which some men use to heighten sexual experiences by relaxing their bodies ( anal sphincters) after inhaling.

Some medical professionals warn that using poppers and Viagra simultaneously can lead to dangerously low blood pressure, stroke, heart attack or death. Poppers, liquid amyl nitrate or butyl nitrate found in small brown bottles, are often sold under the guise of video head cleaner and can be found at gay novelty stores, bars, adult video stores, bath houses and on the Internet.
Mixing the blue pill with the little brown bottle can be lethal ( what a way to go), but it can also be exhilarating. That's why the mixture of Viagra and poppers is gaining popularity among gay ( and straight transgender-loving) men.

So now, some health officials are sounding an alarm: On Monday, a Board of Supervisors panel in San Francisco discussed an ordinance requiring businesses that sell poppers to post warning signs about possible dangers of using the nitrate-based liquid as a drug.

If approved by the Board of Supervisors, it would mark a return to enforcement of an ordinance on the books since the 1980s that calls for misdemeanor penalties for any business that did not post the warnings.

Other health officials and AIDS experts also warn that using the drugs -- individually or in combination -- can lead to an increase in risky sex at a time when HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases are making a resurgence among gay men.

"It's an interesting conundrum," said Jeff Smith, peer counseling program manager at AIDS Survival Project in Atlanta. "A lot of people are saying, `Is it that Viagra is making people have more risky sex, or are people who are already having high-risk sex just seeking out more Viagra?

In addition to an ugly massive nose-bleed, just make sure your sex-provider has working knowledge of how to use an AED, and basic cardiac life-support skills.

What's the old saying: Never Mix, never worry....if you are relaxing your sphincter let her take the V...that will keep you both from wrecking your lovely evening....lol
Sorry if I wrecked someone's PNP fantasy but really guys...this one is very dangerous!

This is not news for old timers but this is another excellent primer for newbies. And for you young studs and providers who like to PNP, you need to remember the advice of philosopher George Santayana: "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it."

I'm sure the DEA website can give you the proper terms for the chemicals you're ingesting. Then you cross reference with Web MD.

Mmmm...

I find such to be sorely lacking, or deeply slanted, when it comes to info on illicit substances. Places like Erowid might be your better bet.

On whippets: I don't imagine they are fun in the same way as poppers(never got too much out of poppers really, so I don't know). But they do enhance the pleasure of touch. Think you might be too out of it do actually do anything on NO2, but being pleasured can be a lot of fun. NO2 is also, from all I can tell, -much- safer than butyl nitrate. NO2 is still used at higher than recreational doses as an anesthetic, and barring contaminants(some canisters are sealed with lead, don't buy cheap), and the chance of asphyxia if you're stupid(limit yourself to a couple, not 10-20 right in a row. Get some O2 into your brain along with the NO2), NO2 is basically safe. Far safer than alcohol, for instance.

Butyl Nitrate/poppers seem from what I can find to be mostly a worry in the case of high doses(again, same as NO2, don't forget to breathe some actual air too). But long-term use can cause neurological damage(yeah, brain damage...). It's also toxic, potentially lethal if swallowed, and somewhat caustic to the skin. It can aggravate existent heart issues, due to it's activity as a vasodilater.

All in all, apparently not as bad as a lot of street drugs, but still bad enough to really not make it worth the little high. If you do use it, do so sparingly and infrequently.

Love as thou will.

O2 is key as Gwenyth stated...

Had a GF who's father was a dentist back in the day.... we had late night access to those giant cannisters of NO2. Some gnarly close calls, especially when we'd turn down the O2 a bit too far.....don't remember that we got too horny during those highs.....

it does amaze me I'm even alive to talk about some of the crazy-ass stuff we did.

Some believe use of poppers indirectly helps spread of HIV because it encourages unprotected sex by lower inhibitions.

My buddy's used to call whippets "hippy crack" lol... It is N2O and useless for sex.

Poppers on the other hand CAN (well for me) make you horny and crazy for sex. The rush lasts only a few minutes and prologed use will give you a headache. Also, too many "huffs" and you can't maintain an erections.

However, if you want to lose your inhibitions while having sex, if you want to turn yourself into a (forgive the forwardness) cum loving whore, the take a sniff.

DO NOT INGEST!!!! Also, it can cause burns so don't get any on your skin. Viagra and Poppers = Death.

On a positive note, they will relax your ass so you can recieve anal with less pain.
