Hummm... makes one think...

The average British man or woman has slept with 2.8 million people -- albeit indirectly, according to figures released on Wednesday to promote awareness of sexual health.
A British pharmacy chain has launched an online calculator which helps you work out how many partners you have had, in the sense of exposure to risk of sexually transmitted diseases (STIs).

The "Sex Degrees of Separation" ready reckoner tots up the numbers based on your number of partners, then their previous partners, and their former lovers, and so on for six "generations" of partners.

The average British man claims to have actually slept with nine people, while women put the figure at 6.3, giving an average of 7.65.

"When we sleep with someone, we are, in effect, not only sleeping with them, but also their previous partners and their partners' previous partners, and so on," said Clare Kerr, head of sexual health at Lloydspharmacy.

"It's important that people understand how exposed they are to STIs and take appropriate precautions including using condoms and getting themselves checked out where appropriate."

   My guess is that most men on RB have slept with tens of millions going by their calculations.

Billions, more likely.
They report that the average Brit woman has slept with 6.3 guys. The average escort/BJ provider must have had sexual contect with 100 times that many. Since the study goes back for 6 degrees, 3 of them are women, and the frequency goes up by 100 x 100 x 100 = 1 million.
2.8 million x 1 million = 2.8 billion, which is about 50x as many people as live in Britain, and nearly half the people in the world.

I guess the flaw in the method is that after a while, many people are being double-, triple, and quadruple-counted. So we're talking about number of contacts, not about number of unique individuals.

Maybe the right numbers are more like 28,000, and 2.8 million. Maybe even less than that.

This is too complicated. Time to get laid instead, and add to the numbers.

   You know, I've been hearing this line about how "when you sleep with someone you are sleeping with everyone they have ever slept with bla bla bla..." for a long time now, and frankly I'm getting a little tired of it. It makes me think that the "authorities" are trying to make it sound like everybody on the planet WILL contract an STD. But the way I look at it, if the the person you sleep with doesn't have any current STD's, you're only sleeping with that one person.

While the risk of STD's is a real issue that I do pay attention to, and I do realize that AID's is a huge problem in a lot of third world countries (Africa in particular), I get a little tired of how "Health Officials" seem to be trying to make me feel guilty that I like to get laid fairly often with some different women.

   Actually, if the health officials operated on the ASSUMPTION that everyone would contract an STD, things would be infinitely better handled, from prevention to management to cure research. It's the over-focus on prevention that is creating this sex-dangers-strawman, and giving people an excuse to bury their heads in the sand, ostracise the infected, and even fight against sensible precautions for providers, teens, and the general populace to make sure people are playing safe/well.
