"What constitutes a flake?"

I'm new at the hobby an I seem to be having over a 50% "didnt happen" rate. So a few questions.

Is 50% pretty standard if your not a regular?

A few times I'm on my way to the location and the provider calls to cancel just before I get there. Does that constitute a flake?

Should I write flake reviews If I think I might want to try to see the provider some other time?

Should I write flake reviews at all? I dont want the majority of my reviews to be flake reviews.

When I do see a provider and she does something for me that I didnt read that she did in her reviews should I be a little discreet? I saw a provider that I gave a great review for. But I really did give every detail of what happened in the review.

Strictly speaking from my point of view, No. Shit happens. In my mind, flaking is when you arrive at the destination at the prescribed time but don't see her within 15 minutes. I give providers 15 minutes to be late. My suggestion: add 30 minutes to the time it takes to drive to the provider, and when you make an appointment make it clear to the provider that you will call at the time of your appointment minus drive time + 30 min. to confirm (e.g. if you call at 1pm and your appointment is at 5pm tell her you will call her at 3:30pm to confirm) before you get in your car to make the drive. Add the 30 minutes to give her time to call you back in case she's in session. Always confirm before driving if your appointment time is more than 2 hours from the time you make the appointment. This works for me. I call to confirm, she doesn't call me back within 30 minutes, no harm done, I go on with my life.

Welcome to the boards Vinny. Guess you registered you handle over 7 years ago, but just getting around to having fun.

Catlover laid it out pretty well. Besides calling for confirmation, text messaging can also work unless she has a thing in her ads about not to.
Texting takes up less of her time and can be less intrusive.

If you don’t have suggest you get VIP membership and do research to avoid flaky providers. http://www.myredbook.com/join.aspx

BTW, after you have some time and experience in the hobby chasing flaky providers at time can add to thrill of the chase.
Have to have the time and temperament for it, which most hobbyists don’t have.

Read the reviews and you'll see who is flaky and who is not. 50% failure rate is way too high. And if a provider gave me a lame last minute excuse, I would be sorely tempted to post a review. Now I wouldn't schedule a second time, but if that has happened to you more than once with the same provider, she dearly deserves a review so that the rest of us can be warned off.
