Forget polar bears, who will save the prostitutes?

Among the many messages sent out by politicians during the UN Climate Conference in Copenhagen, “Be sustainable — don’t buy sex” has to be one of the least expected. This was the advice circulated by Ritt Bjeregaard, the city’s mayor and a former EU Environment Commissioner, sent via postcard to all the hotels in the city to tell them to stamp down on conference-goers looking to patronise prostitutes on their premises.

Prostitution is legal in Denmark (though brothels and pimping are not), and sex workers had been expecting to do a roaring trade during the two-week conference.

Mayor Bjeregaard’s note sparked an angry response from the Sex Workers Interest Group, which pointed out that its members are not breaking the law and promised FREE SEX to any attendees who produced one of the postcards along with their conference accreditation.

“This is sheer discrimination. Ritt Bjerregaard is abusing her position as mayor in using power to prevent us carrying out our perfectly legal job. I don’t understand how she can be allowed to contact people in this way,” the group’s spokeswoman Susanne Møller told website avisen.dk.

Figures that it would be a female politician who would do this.

Actually, it’s human overpopulation that’s devastating the environment; and since prostitution provides an outlet for sex without producing babies, the “green” politicians should actually be promoting prostitution – we deserve tax deductions (if not outright tax credits) for the dollars that we spend on escorts!

I don't know why Al Gore hasn't jumped on this! Prostitution is the original green industry, using an infinitely renewable resource with no carbon footprint. There's no other industry that even comes close.

Yes, precisely that is the problem. Over population on the planet. Each of us can save all the energy we want, but a third world (used to be called a developing nation) mother having a family of 3,4 or 6 kids negates that. Every mouth has to be feed, using resources. The L.A. woman who had the 8 babies on top of the 6 she already has who is unmarried and on wlefare is a classic example. Shame on her for bringing children into the world she can't take care of. Her parents can't handle it either. How irresponsible!

Yes, make a tax deduction for income spent on gratuitous sex. And, if California wants to end the deficit, tax marijuana and prostitution. End of problem!
