"iPhone 'checking RB' at work"

If I check my RB account at work with my iPhone 3gs network and not the work network, can they track me or know what I'm doing.

Thanks, I'm not a techie kind of guy. A co-worker doesn't surf we with his phone at work.

No they can't track you on your 3g, but ATandT knows where you have been.

Be sure no one is looking over your shoulder. There are low tech line-of-sight methods of getting busted, too.

I am so glad I handle all the internet - firewall, nat, dns, logs at my work. It is also great that the owner is a big time monger who gives me high fives at all the video & pictures of my escapades.

LOL, funny the low-tech one is very recognizable. I'd lose it if I saw the tell tale yellow and red ui with small little pics of chix on their 'smart' phones. I'd better watch my usage than. Hmm ATT knows where I've been, that is kind of scary.

I am replying right on my iPhone. Like others have said use your head when surfing. Don't browser open and your phone on the desk. Keep another web page open that you can jump over to.

Go luck

If you are on 3G then there is no trace at work, unless you are under video surveillance.

If you are on wifi, then there will be traces in the network logs.

Just remember to shut off the wifi in settings.

While I haven't tried it myself there's a product by anchor free, the formerly free wifi service provider in SF and other cities, that will allow one to surf anonymously:

re shoulder surfing, there are privacy screens for computer monitors and smart phones that block the
view from all but an orthonormal exposure.
3m makes them.

I'm thinking about getting an iphone (and no, not just to surf rb at work!) but...How does rb look on an iphone? Is all the functionality there? Is it fast enough to be practical?

Assuming you're connecting to AT&T's 3G network, your employer will never know. But do be careful your iphone doesn't inadvertantly connect to the employer's Wifi network.

That being said, I am assuming the Iphone is in your name and not your employers. If it's a company phone then you have to assume AT&T might share the logs with them...

This is slightly off point, but close enough to be worth mentioning here: Under California law, in most cases you will NOT be considered to have a reasonable expectation of privacy with respect to any emails or websurfing on employer's computers OR employer's networks, even if you use your own device, or even if you are accessing a personal on-line email service like gmail.

My boss is also a monger so all is well on that front. I do use my iPhone to do all my rb legwork though. It too convenient not to.

Yeah.. I'm addicted.
