"Mods are mostly providers"

Anyone else noticed that the Mods in chat are more and more often providers? Why is that?

Red likes women more than men?

Believe it or not, women providers here tend to foster less drama than the men.

Because Red doesn't have to pay them... Few men, unless they have no job would do the same.

Well, FWIW I can perhaps clarify this a bit. First of all, no forum Mods get paid. And I know a number of mods personally, and know a fair amount about many others. The ones I know have jobs, often time intensive ones. Law School professor, Attorney, Tug boat captain, grad student...the list goes on and on. When I started modding (and I think I was the second one on Redbook, after Biker) I ran a small business with about 7 employees. Which meant I worked on my job about 12 hours a day, put another 2 or 3 into Redbook, and still managed to find time to hobby, to read, and to see most 1st run motion pictures. Good thing I can get by on 5 or 6 hours of sleep....

One other thing, we have plenty of people who would like to be mods. Getting the right people involved is an art, and one that Red excels at.

Dude, I tend to doubt that ... you get on a sleep-deprived treadmill and sooner or later something snaps. A physical or emotional breakdown, disease, something. Yeah, I know people who say they only need 5-6 hours a night, but all sleep disorder docs say it ain't so. The body needs 7 1/2 to 8 hours sleep.

But you're a great mod!

Life beins at 50 ... or so.

Grad student, I can understand, but a prof, attorney and captain? They have time and need the money? Unless the attorney is trolling for clients, I don't get it! Or do they do it for fun?

and the ones who are in chat to do that are there more and longer than the average hobbyist. Chat is different than forums in that way. A chat needs someone there to react right away if there's a problem but forums are message boards where delay doesn't cause the same sort of issue. Right?

Thanks for the points of view, and I was referring to Chat more than the Forums. Seems with providers as Mods in Chat, it really colors the discussion in a different way, perhaps more provider friendly and less hobbyist friendly? They seem to boot people way more often than in the past. O well, times change I guess--perhaps like the gunfighter, the way of the hobbyist friendly board is past?

Chat is live and interactive much more than the boards. There is a lot of guys who think chat is much more than it really is- and thus they forget how to conduct themselves. The ladies are the guardians of good behavior. I see men and women who don't know how to conduct themselves. Plus ladies are more likely to think with their head and not the other one.

If you think a mod is out of line, then take it up with Red. Otherwise, what's your beef? Want to complain about providers? You can do it on the boards under NW or similar forums. Feel its unfair? In what way?

I don't really see what your issue is. As long as you follow the rules laid out in the chat FAQ:

http://forum.myredbook.com/dcforum2/DCForumID15/378.html

and mind your manners, you won't have any problems in chat. If however, you're being offensive, harassing another chatter or making a lot of drama, of course a mod will step in and take action.

As for the majority of the mods being providers, I think that makes sense. I'd assume Red would want providers to feel as comfortable as possible so that they spend more time in chat. If it was more favorable towards the guys, then I'd assume the providers would feel less comfortable resulting in chat being filled with a bunch of guys which sounds kind of boring to me.
