"Blocked number on my hobby phone"

Asked this in another thread but I kind of need to know asap to put me at ease. Here's the situation, I got a random "unknown" call on my hobby phone just now, and I picked it up without saying hello. Needless to say, i hung up and turned off my phone. What are the odds of it being LE? I didn't hear anything i just picked it up and hung up. I would think RA's wouldn't block their numbers for 1, they don't take blocked numbers themselves, and 2, their numbers are already advertised on the site already so why bother? I'm freaking out right now, someone give me some insight!

p.s
I'm using a tracphone ...

Academically speaking, your are being Tracked using your Tracphone! Loose the phone asap, ask for forgiveness and hope for the best and be ready for the worst. Do you have a good criminal lawyer?

I like turtles

-

That's the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard. Being tracked? Feds don't waste time and resources to get someone for a crime that doesn't even carry a single day in jail sentence or - what? - maybe $100 fine? That justifies spending man hours and tying up equipment and post 9/11 resources for a nothing ass charge.

If he was someone worth getting, he wouldn't be shaking in his shoes asking strangers on a hooker board for advice.

It's your hobby phone. Toss it and get another if it bothers you so much. Odds of it being LE? About the same as you winning the lottery tomrorow.

Only the paranoid survives when it comes to high risk activities. DIA has stepped up tracking targeting certain industries.

Highly recommend to use Google Voice and change the number frequently.

I get all sorts of weird phone calls on my hobby phone, because there's a lot of other people calling pre-paid phone numbers than people in the hobby, and the numbers turn over pretty regularly.

I hate to freak you out more, but if LE really wanted to get a hold of you, they don't need to call you to verify who you are. Cell phone locations can easily be tracked even if the phone isn't live. I don't think LE is going to go out of their way to get a warrant, etc, to track down one john via cell tower triangulation, though.

To be honest I am really surprised that anyone commented. The professor is right, your doomed dude! Just go down to the local PD and confess! They have all the records and transcripts from Dateline!!!

Seriously, how paranoid must one be to take a stray phone call to an anonymous phone so grim? “Comment” has the best advice…Why worry? It’s a hobby, you are not engaged in the act, nor have you the opportunity to commit the act over a phone. Unless phone sex is illegal! I assume based on the low number of posts you are new(er) to the game. Take your balls in your hand and cough, if you feel a pulse you are a man, that said get a hold of yourself or get another hobby, sheesh!

this is a goofy thread I agree. Good to be paranoid, but this was more likely a wrong number or telemarketer.

I was interested in what you just said though that phones can be triangulated even when off. How does that work, out of curiosity? is there another lithium battery that keeps sending out a signal?

I am pretty sure the phone has to be on. You don't have to be on a call. The phone regularly pings the nearest cell tower so they know which cell tower to send calls to. So they can tell within the cell towers signal radius where you are. Then when you move to another cell area, they can tell which direction you are going. If you have GPS tracking on your phone, they can get your exact location. But your phone still may have to be on (at least in sleep mode).

But you have nothing to worry about unless they are looking for you. Just ignore any calls you don't recognize or blocked calls. Probably just a wrong number or telemarketer.

I wouldn't sweat it. The numbers are recirculated. I've gotten calls from bill collectors, doctors office appointment reminders, and other random stuff that was for the previous person having the number.

So what if it was LE? I doubt they would use an unlisted number. Proves nothing. And if an org/PO calls you, it's usually from a listed number (so you can tell it is them calling).

In the future, you should ignore all "unknown" calls (just hit the "hang-up" button to make it stop ringing). I also ignore calls from numbers I do not recognize or am not expecting. If an org/PO is calling you, it will either be the number you called to schedule the appt or the PO's phone which will usually have the same area code.

Wrong number - have fun with it:

"Hello? Debbie? Yeah, Debbie's here, who's this? Well, Ralph, uh, Debbie can't talk right now, my dick's in her mouth. How about if I have her call you back later when I'm done?"

Turbo you're being paranoid... You have about as much to fear from your phone as you do from posting your message here.

LE only goes after High Profile people, and the unfortunate guys\gals that just happen to get caught up in a random sweep.

Relax dude

I sincerely apologize for this thread ... As stated by one of the members, I am a newbie to this hobby and I just needed assurance so I know in the future what to expect. Don't think I'm going to toss my phone, i'll just not answer any more unknown numbers. Thanks for the comments!

LE is not gonna call on a blocked number.. I have done many TOFTT .. and believe I have received a call back from LE twice.. both times the lady in question was ticketed/arrested .... several years ago... I have since figured out how to avoid that crap ...

if they call and ask you to come in... try and delay .. if you put it off a bit ..they will get tired and charge the gal or let her go... at their discretion..

a call from a blocked number on your hobby phone is either a wrong number or a sales call..

(mainly avoid druggies or drug situations) ... they are not gonna get ya for being on john and calling you ... they have other things to do.

trust me it is either a scammer either trying to sell some extended car warranty ( who the hell would fall for this), or some other asshole solicitor, or telemarketer. Or they could be trying to reach the previous owner of the phone as someone said these #'s are recycled. If it does happen to be LE, which is very unlikely, they have nothing on you, and you should be anonymous on your phone registration anyways...

No need to apologize even paranoids have enemies! Unless you are expecting a call back from a provider I wouldn't answer block (unknown) calls either. I have on occasion had a provider call me from her private phone and had her # blocked. I was expecting a call so I answered. Otherwise whether its my hobby phone or not I don't answer blocked calls. Not because of LE concerns but bs calls.

Let's say the worst happens and somehow LE gets a warrant from tracfone and gets your address. They show up at your house...
Who are you that they would go through all this trouble for a misdemeanor?
They don't put that much work into finding stolen cars, which is a felony.
