"Re-entering the mysterious world of condoms..."

Hello gentlemen,

The last time I needed a condom was in my late twenties, about 15 years ago. This past week I found myself in a situation where I needed to use one again, and it was a disaster. I want to make sure that I get it right before I have a repeat failure.

First of all, in the distant past I just picked up some ordinary Trojans at the pharmacy, and they worked acceptably. I never bothered with checking for size or anything. This time around, in the days before my encounter, I started reading up about more modern, thinner, more sensitive condoms, with no smell. Of course, I wanted some of those.

I had placed a mail order for some Crown Skinless Skins, but they hadn't yet arrived. I did not know whether to expect the lady to be prepared. The closest match I could find at my pharmacy was the Beyond Seven Sheerlon, so I picked up a box of those.

When the moment came, I found it difficult to unroll the condom. As I got it a few inches down, it PINCHED me. It felt like the diameter was too small. It was a total mood-killer. I never got it to work correctly, and I was frustrated.

A day after my mishap, the Crowns arrived. Tonight I just did a little solo experiment with a Beyond Seven and with a Crown. Again, I could not get the Beyond Seven to work. A second condom pinched me in exactly the same way as the first. The Crown was better, but still more challenging to unroll, and more snug than I can remember condoms being in the past.

Finally I got out my tape measure and string, and did a little adolescent measuring. First -- although I know length is not a big issue for condoms unless you're huge -- I'm longer now. I was 6 5/8" long about twenty years ago, and now I'm an even 7". I never measured girth when I was younger, but currently I'm an even 6" around.

I have to wonder -- if I got longer, did I get thicker too? (And if I did enlarge, did I do it to myself? Ten years of masturbating an hour at a time, after the wife's libido went to sleep, proudly demonstrating to no one at all how long I could delay an orgasm... )

Various condom web pages that I have read suggest that standard condoms are designed for 5 inches of girth. They say if you're "larger" than that, you should try magnums. But I have found no references which say exactly HOW much larger qualifies as "larger." All I know is that it was easier to slip into a standard Trojan in 1995...

Any advice would be appreciated!

Are you sure you didn't buy a bag of party balloons by mistake?

> Any advice would be appreciated!

At the current growth rate, you'll be 8" long on your 100th birthday. Better order now, in case there's a latex shortage around the year 2067.

I know that a guys ears and nose keep growing as he gets older but I had no idea my dick would get bigger too. Can't wait for my 80th birthday, when I'll have at least a 12 incher.

Size fit is more important than how thin the condom is, though I would love if one of the manufacturers would introduce an extra large "thin" condom. Try Trojan Magnum or Magnum XL. They should be much easier to get on & work better than the others you tried.

Some practical advice, Tall Gent. Thank you. After the first few comments, I wasn't sure that I would get any.

Has Trojan solved its odor problems? It's one of the things that I disliked about them.

Try magnum thins- you have to read the box- it looks exactly the same except for the "Thin" at the bottom. I haven't seen them in small packs yet. I like the feel of the mag regulars better but a girl I see says that the thins don't smell and taste better- Guess I've always been too busy to notice

Your girth may be too large for standard condoms. Give Magnum Ecstasy ( http://www.condomjungle.com/TROJAN_Magnum_ECSTASY_Ultrasmooth_10_Condoms_p/tj0010010.htm )a try.

Also, if beating off made your dick bigger, every guy on redbook would be built like John Holmes.

Well hey, 3/8 of an inch longer in something like 20 years is nothing to write home about. And I didn't say I knew why it happened, only that it did.

>> Well hey, 3/8 of an inch longer in something like 20 years is nothing to write home about. <<

Are you sure you didn't fuck up, and you forgot that you "burned an inch" on your tape when you measured this time? Maybe to keep the tang from snaggin' on your nutsack or something?

It's not an uncommon mistake among men in the trades and "do it yourselfers"......or fishermen for that matter.

If you did, maybe you're actually 5/8" shorter now, and you're really at 6" x 5"?

http://www.patentstorm.us/patents/7454845/description.html

One drawback of such conventional tape measures is that the tang can become damaged or bent. Another drawback is that the rivet holes in the tape may become excessively ovalized, especially after repeated usage, and the accuracy of the measurement deteriorates. This is generally not a problem for measurements with tolerances of . -.1/8'', but may be a problem for measurements requiring greater accuracy, e.g., . -. 1/16'').

One method employed in the construction trades
to account for this loss of accuracy is to "burn an inch." Burning an inch in construction is typically done to improve accuracy because practitioners tend not to trust the accuracy of the floatingtang or clip, regardless of whether it has become worn or damaged. Burning an inch simply means starting the measurement at the "one inch" marking of the tape instead of at "zero" marking, which is where the tang is located. One error that may occur, however, is that the practitioner forgets about the "one inch" that was burned and ends up one inch short when subsequently cutting material.

Accordingly, a need exists for a practical and efficient tape measure that overcomes at least some of the aforementioned drawbacks.

I work in the sciences, not in the building trades. We don't burn inches in my line of work, we measure them accurately.

I take it you don't appreciate my humor.

>> I work in the sciences, not in the building trades. <<

I sorta figured that, hence the link.

>> We don't burn inches in my line of work, we measure them accurately. <<

Oh. I figured you probably just used a tape or a ruler you had lying around the house when you decided to measure your dick. I guess I was wrong.

So what sort of lab facility, and what manner of apparatus did you use when you took these scientifically precise measurements of the length and girth of your fleshy member?

Gets me to wondering why you didn't express your results in other more precise units then. Inches and eighths are kinda crude compared to units like the Angstrom or nanometer. Do you guys even still use Angstroms?

length x girth
177,800,000 nanometers x 152,400,000 nanometers

In the off chance that this is actually a real question, and not just some troll, I've always appreciated Condomdepot as a great online resource for condom information (both product stats and reviews).

Since you labeled your circumference as being 6", that'd give a width of 3" (Circ=2radius). Feel free to check below for the particular stats.

Crown Condoms

Magnum
http://www.condomdepot.com/product/detail.cfm/nid/231/pid/2339

Magnum Thin
http://www.condomdepot.com/product/detail.cfm/pid/3263

Magnum XXL

Magnum Type Condoms
http://www.condomdepot.com/product/search.cfm?criteria=magnum&submit=Go

2010 Best Condoms
http://www.condomdepot.com/reviews/best-condoms.cfm

Both Durex and Lifestyle have large condoms, but as you're complaining about width, I don't think they'll help as both have a uniform 2" width which is actually tighter than Crown condoms (my personal favorite).

Hope burns bright!

"In the off chance that this is actually a real question,"

It is, thank you. Do I have to post a video of me trying to get the Beyond Seven condom unrolled to prove it?

"...I've always appreciated Condomdepot as a great online resource for condom information (both product stats and reviews)."

That's where I mail-ordered the Crown Skinless Skins. I just went to their "best condoms" page (your last link) and read up on the first few. Looking farther down that page than I did the first time, I'm now seeing the Durex Love and the Trustex Extra Large. That extra 1/8" to 1/4" in diameter translates to 3/8" to 3/4" in added girth. That could help me.

Although I took elementary Geometry some 35 years ago, I seem to remember that the circumference (no pun intended) of a circle was Pi x 2 Radii. This would imply that for a circumference of 6" you will have a width of slightly under 2", not 3" (OK the exact arithmetic is 6"/3.14159...)

If you had a 3" width we'd be talking about a 9.4" circumference, which I suspect more than a few ladies would find to be challenging. They might even want to charge you time and a half...

Of course, does anyone have an appendage that is perfectly cylindrical? If so, maybe it could be donated to science (preferably upon death) so that a cross section could be exhibited at the Smithsonian?

LAST EDITED ON 28-Feb-10 AT 11:48 AM (PST)

I used to be really awkward with condoms until a lady friend showed me this trick: After you take it out of the package, take your longest finger and unroll the condom as far as it will go onto your finger, then pull it off unrolled and only then pull it on to your member.
Squeeze the bubble tip as you start to pull it on to avoid that annoying air bubble. Then unroll a little more as needed.
Practice this a few times alone.
Bottom line it's way easier to unroll a condom onto a finger than a dick.

Oh, and if you're older like me, Viagra or Levitra are great for not losing your erection during those moments of condom awkwardness.

yea. i had a vasectomy years ago and took bareback with my gal for granted. getting into pros required getting into condoms.

i tried beyond seven sheerlon, trojan twisted pleasure, etc. but only liked the loved durex type. i am probably same size as OP so that's why i mentioned these.

some of the pros still like to use their own but whatever, they have to get them on then so it's not a hassle.

as far as the PDE5 inhibitors go, i think they totally rock for doing pros. gives me a bionic dick and i can really get my money's worth. the only trade off is a little loss of sensitivity but the psychological advantage (you can fuck their brains out) really makes up for it. and what the hell, it's with a condom anyway so how great can it be physically. if you are with a civilian girl, though, i don't recommend them as you'll easily overwhelm them and also do your lust-heart connection a disservice.

I would guess that the problem has to do with a not very hard cock rather than a too small condom. I'm a fair amount larger than you and have no problems with Crowns. If you're a bit soft, than a larger condom may feel better.
