"smartphone app useful for providers and hobbyists"
LAST EDITED ON 24-Aug-10 AT 05:38 PM (PST)
I just read about this new phone called Neer. It allows you to share you location with others but in controlled limited way. You can choose who you want to share your location with, which locations, and at what times. Here is a demo video.
How would this be useful to providers? They could use this to help cut down no-shows and fake callers. The guy could enable his location once on the road or when close to her incall. You probably don't want them to know where you live. When the guy is close to incall she could enable her location to guide him to the incall which is useful if monger does not know the area, its a big apt complex, the provider is not good with directions (e.g. AMP POs with limited english). If the provider and monger are ATF and regular they would trust each other to share location also. AMPs could share their new location with regular customers they already know and trust.
How would this be useful to hobbyist? Likewise hobbyist could use this for outcalls. He could also tell if she is really on the way and stalling him to come later while she double books etc. Also like I said above it helps guide you to the incall spot to offset bad directions.
Of course all the above assumes the provider and monger both have smartphones. Currently smartphones are not cheap so mongers more likely to use cheap hobby phones. But I'd expect to see cheap prepaid Android phones within a couple years.
A while back somebody like cityvibe or lovings tried to add location to escort ads but it was giving away too much info to cops. This private sharing of location seems like a much better idea.

Wow. The logic and potential for application here, I get. The desire to be voluntarily a blip on a radar, not so much. Especially not after just reading some threads in the past few days about blackmail attempt, gun held to head, etc. Not sure I'd ever want to develop a sufficient level of trust with a provider, even an ATF, to go this route, but some might. I DO wish RB seemed to work better on my smartphone.

I agree. That is providing too much info on both sides. I don't want to give a provider too much advance notice that I am there, or have her track me on my way in or out. And it would make it much easier for LE to locate providers in the neighborhood and target them. Even private groups can be infilrated by the cops. Plus, it would open the possibility that providers could track each other and call LE on each other.

Why would anyone here want something like that? There is a reason why we use Red Book; because it is discrete. No point in broadcasting our hobby out to others.
