"Took the STD tests and got the results today"

I took the STD tests last week, and got the results today.

I tested negative on everything except Herpes Simplex I, which I read is also called oral herpes, and about 50% of American are infected with it. It is basically the core sores that you get on the lips or mouth. Is that right?

It's incurable. You will have that the rest of your life.

It also makes you more susceptible to catching other STDs.

You are now at a higher rate for contracting other STDs.

I got tested and my results came back too. I was diagnosed as HIV+, Syphilis, Gonorrhea, HPV, the rest is minor stuff. I'm hoping to contract all the other stuff sharing my similar RAs with amp_nomad.

It all started when i was first diagnosed with Herpes. It was most likely the result of DFK and DATY.

Oh well, it's only STDs...lol.

I was making a point that while Herpes Simplex I is an STD, it is the least of the ones that are serious, IMO.

Now, you are in the camp of 50% of Americans out there, and you are engaged in this "hobby", which should make you feel lucky and grateful.

The only way to guarantee no Herpes Simplex I is to never kiss any girl, or guy if you're into that, and so don't live life.

There are some ways to keep Herpes under control. And you do have a obligation, IMO, to not infect others. It would be nice if you told them you have it?

On the contrary, most people with HSV1 get it when they were kids kissing their parents, aunties and uncles.

Only 2-5% of HSV1 carriers get recurring outbreaks.

Now that you have Herpes, are you going to stop RBGFE? Since I assume that is how you got it right?

No, I don't think so. I have had cold sores long before I started hobbying. I mean this can be caught just by kissing, so I had plenty of kissing with civvies, which could have given me the cold sores.

As for telling RA's about it, I may tell them, but most likely that I will just not see RA's when I do have cold sores, since you are only infestious when there is actually an open cold sore.

BTW, I rarely get cold sores these days. Maybe once in a blue moon, and then they are gone in a few days.

Jeez, I feel for you Brah. Maybe, you should get lip piercings to cover the sores that way when you do DFK & DATY they won't question where you got the sores from.

What do you mean "Is that right?" The person to ask is your doctor, not a bunch of whore mongers on an internet board...most of us are ignorant dicks...or have ignorant dicks...

Yo Cifuinca, you're fine dude.

You most likely got HSV1 long before you started mongering.

Your 50% quote is actually fairly conservative. HSV1 tends to just hang out in the nerves in close to the ear/mouth - which helps to explain the mouth ulcers.

HSV2, which affects about 1 out of 6 people in the US, is the usual culprit for genital herpes. Hangs out in the lower spine.

Can HSV1 come from genital herpes and/or lead to genital herpes, yes. Is it common: definitely not as much as HSV2.

And yeah, technically you're at an increased risk for transmitting/receiving STDs, based on the statistical results of cohort studies. But to be clinically applicable, you are at the highest risk if you have ulcers or had ulcers within about a couple weeks. Additionally though, the ulcers actually make you the bigger culprit in transmiTTING an STD.

Knowledge is power, or some NBC BS =P But go ask your primary doc for confirmation - as stated, public boards are a YMMV source of info, regardless of the credentials of the poster.

You sound so definitive, yet there are points of your post which are highly suspect and/or not true.

>HSV2, which affects about 1 out of 6 people in the US, is

No, HSV2 does not hang out in the spine.

>Can HSV1 come from genital herpes and/or lead to genital
>herpes, yes. Is it common: definitely not as much as HSV2.

What ? Are you implying HSV1 mutates into HSV2 ?

>And yeah, technically you're at an increased risk for

>results of cohort studies.

What ? Please display credible evidence that humans with circumoral HSV1 are more susceptible to acquiring STDs.

>>No, HSV2 does not hang out in the spine.

I wrote it layman's terms. HSV2 is typically located in the sacral ganglion, which is located at the base of the spine. Hence, "hang out in the spine."

>>What ? Are you implying HSV1 mutates into HSV2 ?

No. I'm not implying anything and it's your own inference that gave you that idea. My comment regarding the ability of HSV1 to lead to genital herpes is just that.

>>What ? Please display credible evidence that humans with circumoral HSV1 are more susceptible to acquiring STDs

No thanks. I'm not going to do your research for you. But to give you hints, look at the CDC and WHO first as tertiary sources; look specifically at the syphilis data and some of the international HIV data. Then if you're not good at using MESH terms w/ medline, then just use Google Scholar to do your own research, and no, I am not making a jab at you regarding literature search engine utility - I'm just offering an alternative to pubmed.

Wow ! So upset. Not asking for research, just one or more links.

It's much easier for you to admit you overstated your position and retract some of this. Please explain how circumoral HSV Type One causes an increase in other STDs. That's a silly notion. Is this by viral titers ? Direct culture ? How would harboring quiescent HSV on the mouth lips increase the the chances of acquiring a different infection at a genital location ?

Here is a lay press review that I thought was informative, in particularly in diagnostic tests and other diseases that might be confused as genital Herpes. It states that about 50% of genital Herpes is now HSV1.

Those are usually aphthous ulcers.
