"STDs"

I'm new to the hobby and wonder if any of you regulars get tested for STDs. There should be little to no risk from CFS but what about LK, DFK, BBBJ, and BBHJ? Herpes can be transmitted thought kissing. A bunch of the viral STDs like Syphillis, Clamydia, and Gonnorea can be transmitted through unprotected oral sex. What to do? Stay with kissing and BBBJs (part of the GFE) and get tested regularly or just stick with CFS and CBJ?

   The three most common Sexually Transmitted conditions are;

1) Crabs (and no they don't "jump")
2) HSV-1 or HSV-2 (Herpes)
3) HPV (genital warts)

Though HPV is third on the list, it has a higher chance of susceptibility and has an expected higher annual infection rate than herpes. It just newer on the scene, and probably will supplant Herpes in the future, if it hasn't already.

http://www.uihealthcare.com/news/currents/vol2issue2/hpv.html

Reality, that if a condom was used, chances were GREATLY reduced for certain STDs, though you weren't completely protected against, crabs, unless she was shaven, Genital Warts or Herpes. A condom will reduce the area that can be infected by Genital Warts or Herpes, but doesn't always eliminate the required skin to skin contact.

At present it's thought about 20% of males have some form of active Herpes and 25% of females do.

Here's a recent thread on BBHJ.

Don't forget Hep. - highly contagious, not visible and can transfer through kissing...

Get vaccinated if you are seeing a lot of people or traveling overseas.

If you are scared about it:
Don't keep.
Keep anything covered you value.
Verbal &/or Visual inspection.
Pee and wash with antibacterial soap immediately afterwards.

You have to do your own research and look out for yourself healthwise. No one else will.

Au Revoir,
Ruby Tulips

Thanks for the replies Ruby and AF. I think I'll still explore the "hobby" because I'm a man and I'm not dead yet ... but I guess I can do without kissing and uncovered activities. I'll miss the kissing part though (even if it's only illusory intimacy).

Good Observation Ruby. Further, At this time there is no cure for
Hep. C. It is treated by having a Liver Transplant.
This is one STD that doesn't have as much publicity and it is becoming widespread.

Actually, You may end up having to get a liver transplant, BUT that won't cure your Hep C. You will still have it . . . it's in your blood.

Here is more information on Hep from the CDC:
http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/diseases/hepatitis/c/faq.htm

Their view is that Hep C is unlikely to be transferred via oral sex.

There are many types of Hepatitis...A,B,C,...

Hep A is transmitted by an oral/fecal route...the other two aren't.

You can't get a vaccination for A or C.

Visual inspection isn't the best way to determine if someone is sick or not.

Yes and with the Twinrex thing you get let shots...I think it's 2 as opposed to 3 or 4. Ouchie. But a lot of clinics (like the St. James) don't have it yet. They only offer ye old standard so I guess the Twinrex costs more or something...

Also, I can't figure out why everybody just wants to vaccinate you without testing to see if you have it first. What's the deal with that? I've heard a lot of people can have it with no symptoms.

"Also, I can't figure out why everybody just wants to vaccinate you without testing to see if you have it first."

You mean testing for Hepatitis? The point of vaccinating someone is that the disease is prevented before the person gets it.

Non-treatment can put the person at risk for fulimanat hep (which is treated by transplant) or cancer of the liver.

An ounce of prevention.....

14. "Not Viral"
In response to message #12

Syphilus, Chlaymidia and Gonorrhea (forgive my spelling it is a little late for me!) are not viral infections. They are bacterial infections and that is why they can be cured through antibiotics. All can be contracted through oral sex and drug resistant strains (particularly of G) are out there. Viral infections include HIV, Hepatitis A,B and C, HPV, and Herpes. There are treatment available for these viruses, but they will always remain in your body.
