Bangkok is easy for farang (Caucasian foreigners): the venues for finding companionship are many, easy to find, and easy to handle. And they are well described on RedBook and on the internet. Girls will generally speak enough English and have enough experience with farang to make an easy connection.

Phuket (Patong Beach) and Pattaya are also easy: plenty of girls and an obvious venue.

Elsewhere in Thailand the situation is less easy. I will describe Chiang Mai and Khorat.

Chiang Mai has gogo bars, beer bars, and body massage. There are enough farang in Chiang Mai that finding these venues and meeting girls is not too difficult. Many will speak enough English, although not all.

Chiang Mai has at least four gogo bars; the best two are Spotlight (on Khotchasan Road, which borders the eastern side of the eastern moat. or Moon Muang Road, south of ThaPhae Gate; and Foxy Lady (behind the night bazaar on the next street west of the street running through the night bazaar). The bar fine (fee to taking out a girl) is around 500 baht, and the girl will want somewhere between 1000 baht and 2500 baht, depending in part on whether she goes with you short time (one pop and she leaves) or long time (overnight, including one pop at night and one in the morning).

Chiang Mai has several body massage places: the best two are Sayuri on BamrungRat Road, east of the Ping River) and Pandora’s Box (further east, opposite the Post Office, thus west of the railway station). You select a girl from the “fishbowl” and you get an hour and a half of a mutual bath, maybe body-body massage, cbj, and cfs. The girls might not speak much if any English. Cost will be between 1000 and 2000 baht for a farang, which is quite a bit more than a Thai guy will pay. The girl will expect a tip of at least a few hundred baht. Do not take a tuk-tuk to these places, as this will add a hidden 500 baht kickback to the tuk-tuk driver. Sayuri is a 20-minute walk from the night bazaar; Pandora’s is quite a bit further east.

Chiang Mai has other body massage places, including one at the Chiang Mai Hills Hotel, and at several other hotels.

Beer bars in Chiang Mai are clustered on LoiKhro Road just east of Khotchasan Road. They are full of girls in the evening, most of whom will speak some English. Buy drinks for the girls, pay a modest bar fine, and the girl will go home with you. Prices may be slightly lower than for gogo girls.

Girls in the gogo bars tend towards farang tastes: slender girls in a range of colors from light to dark. Thai men prefer their girls heavier, with bigger breasts, and generally lighter in color.

Chiang Mai also has daytime brothels (less than 500 baht, you have to speak Thai or go with a Thai friend), karaoke bars (you will often see the girls outside), lady houses (take-out places, generally difficult to find without a tuk-tuk driver who will get a commission), discos, and coffee shops and clubs. Karaoke bars are generally expensive, you pay an hourly rate for a private room (or stay in the public room), an hourly rate for the girl (200 baht per hour is typical), and the cost of drinks for you and the girl. Many of the karaoke places are for Japanese men; the cost tends to be higher. The girl may or may not want to go home with you. Best to speak some Thai. You can meet girls in the discos: the most lively in Chiang Mai is Bubbles at the Pornping Tower. Inexpensive, very loud, very young, and there will be some girls looking for companionship, along with lady boys. A coffee shop (next to Diamond Riverside) is a bar with girls who sing. Their companionship is available. Better speak Thai or go with a Thai friend. Clubs are similar to karaoke bars (Pink at the Pornping for example), again you pay for the girl’s time, drinks, and a take-out fee. The Bunny Club is worth a look; easy companionship.

Khorat has very few farang visitors, and finding companionship, especially girls who speak some English, is not easy. There are plenty of girls available; finding them and communicating are more difficult than in Bangkok and Chiang Mai. I do nor believe there are gogo bars or beer bars in Khorat, so body massage is the easiest option for a farang.

Khorat has several body massage places. One is Ginza, located across from Klang Plaza, near “Fun Factory” disco. One is Pailin Square, west near the SimaThani Hotel. One is Pegasus, north on Mittraphap Road. And there are others, Price between 1000 and 2000 baht, same service as in Chiang Mai, tip the girl a few hundred baht. These girls often meet Thai taste rather than farang taste, but some will be quite pretty and fun.

Khorat also has karaoke places, can be expensive if they cater to Japanese, best to speak some Thai, and not sure the girls will go home with you. Discos will have girls looking for companionship, not sure they will speak English.

You can ask at your hotel to have a massage girl sent to your room. At some point during the massage other service can be requested. It is up to the girl whether or not she accepts your invitation.

Traditional massage places (legitimate massage) are worth visiting for the good massage. Some of the girls will provide extras. If she doesn’t tease or offer, you can take her hand during the massage. If she resists or pulls away you have your answer. If she lets you put her hand where you like you also have an answer. In any case you will get a good and inexpensive massage.

Summary: Bangkok, Phuket, and Pattaya are very easy for farang. Chiang Mai has much less action but girls who speak enough English can be found. Khorat is possible but more difficult, as there are few farang visitors. Girls can be found in most Thai cities, but they will not have much experience with farang, and are unlikely to speak much English. However, speaking a few words of Thai and having a sense of adventure will usually bring about success and a fun and memorable adventure.

The place shut down promptly at midnight. The same was true in Nakhon Phanom in the far North East. Is that still the norm outside Bangkok / Pattaya / Phuket?
