"Enjou-kosai"

This post has nothing to do with the Bay Area, but I know some of you mongers have been to Japan. I'm hoping some of you have experienced Enjou-kousai.

If you have, can you shed some light on setting up one of these encounters? I'll be in the Nagoya area some time next month and am curious to know the procedure.

I've been to Japan several times and speak the language, so I won't be surprised if this is limited to natives. But, many girls are extremely open to foreigners.

OK, here's what I know. Enjo kosai was a lot more popular during the bubble and shortly after, but has been pretty dead for a while now. That's from some friends in Tokyo when I asked. What's left of Enjo kosai has moved to the 'telephone clubs', so if you speak Japanese it's a start.

However as you said, there are lots of girls who are curious and a lot more open minded than girls here. I've had some success in Shibuya, but not on a regular basis. A lot of flirting, but most of them chicken out when it starts getting more serious.

I'll be in Nagoya next month also, and would like to learn about any other places that are open to foreigners.

Cops and public pressure are making enjo-kosai a lot less tolerated by the populace these days. Safest bet from a legal persepctive is to find an 18+ girl dressed up on one of those school-girl outfits at one of the image clubs...

As stated already, most of this activity moved to the telephone clubs, and that in turn has since migrated primarily to i-mode (cell phone) web sites and email. You can still observe some activity outside pachinko parlors in Shinjuku and Ikebukuro, but that's the only remaining enjo-kosai street action I've seen in years. Back during the peak, 109 in Shibuya was probably the best place around for watching enjo-kosai in action, but if anything it has now simply become the place to meet before proceeding up the hill to the Dogenzaka love hotels.

As for Nagoya, I don't ever remember seeing any enjoy kosai gathering spots. Worse, the fashion health, soapland, and other playgrounds in Nagoya are very unfriendly to western foreigners --even if you speak perfect Japanese. If you are Asian you'll have much better luck even if you speak no Japanese. If you don't know where to go in Nagoya, there are some filipina hostess clubs and a few other foreigner-friendly clubs and bars behind the Tokyu Hotel near Sakae station that may be worth visiting. I suggest not going there until after 10pm.

With the large number of Japanese students here on student visas at UCLA, UCSD, etc, is it possible that there are some college girls here that are open to an Enjou Kosai relationship?

Enjo-kosai is a term generally applied in Japan to girls who are under 18. The term also refers to exchanging gifts (not cash) for sex, and I assume by your reference to the universities that's what you're referring to.

I've found that the best places to hook up with Japanese college girls (for money or otherwise--keep in mind that most attend Junior Colleges here, not major Universities)are at businesses where their Japanese language and customs knowledge are in high demand. That's usually businesses frequented by Japanese expats--restaurants, bars, and hostess clubs. The owners of such places need to be willing to risk letting them work without a working visa. LA (Torrance, Gardena, and Little Tokyo in Downtown) has some excellent Japanese bars and hostess clubs where you have a good chance of hooking up after you become a regular customer. Sadly, the Japanese clubs in the bay area don't compare favorable to those in LA. Most can be located by going to a Japanese supermarket and picking up a free copy of the "Yellow Pages" put together specifically for the local Japanese community. These are usually placed just inside the entrance/exit. The clubs are usually listed under "nightclubs".

daneyboy,
That's exactly what I was refering to. Yes there are quite a few places worth exploring in the Gardena area. Not sure how much of it is Japanese anymore. Quite a few Koreans restaurants and bars have been popping up more over the past few years compared to Japanese businesses. Having lived in Gardena and Hawthorne in the past, I never thought much of looking for action in the Torrance area, unless it's borderline north Torrance/ south Gardena. Japantown would probably be too expensive, so I've avoided the bar scene there completely. I've always seen extremely beautiful girls at Mitsuwa Plaza, but never tried picking up there.

Just checked their website and much to my surprise, there's a Mitsuwa here in the San Gabriel Valley!:

Damn, too late for tonite, but I'm heading to San Gabriel for dinner tomorrow.

If you stick to hostess clubs within a 5-10 minute drive of the Toyota and Honda US HQ buildings you'll be able to find the real Japanese clubs. My favorite--though I haven't been there in a few years--is Club Birdie, located adjacent to the 7-11 just south of the Toyota HQ Bldg.
