"Is this a good travel package to Rio and BA?"

Saw this deal for $1600 US dollars departure from LAX. 8 night tour package includes the following:

__________________________________________
Roundtrip International Airplane Ticket.
3 nights hotel accommodation in Rio de Janeiro.
2 nights hotel accommodation in Iguazu Falls.
3 nights hotel accommodation in Buenos Aires.
Daily Breakfast.
All transfers as per itinerary.
Half day guided tour of Corcovado Mountain.
Rio by Night tour with Samba show and BBQ dinner.
Tour to the Argentine and Brazilian side of the Falls (ENTRANCE FEES NOT INCLUDED)
Half day guided city tour of Buenos Aires.
Dinner and Tango Show in Buenos Aires.
Air transportation Rio de Janeiro - Iguazu Falls - Buenos Aires.
Taxes of approximately $168 additional
---------------------------------------------

I've been wanting to go to Rio and BA to monger. I've seen roundtrip fares (plane only) of about $900 USD RT just to Brazil only. So my question is, how would you experienced travelers rate this package deal? And would the itinerary give me a good flexibility for mongering and sightseeing? Or would the relative inflexibility of a guided tour (schedules, hotels) severely compromise my ability to find girls and monger (like going to Termas, getting take home girls from clubs or agencies, etc.) Of course I'd rather do everything on my own with full flexibility. But setting up my own independent a la carte menu of plane, hotel, meal, and sightseeing tours in 2 countries seems like it would be at least three times more expensive. So is this a good and do-able compromise? Any comments or advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like a decent deal that would save you some money but you really need to read the fine print (hotels are likely for double occupancy so if just you they will Add single supplement charge). Are these charter flights (no miles, no flexibility to change dates, older aircraft, shitty service etc). Season is important also (BA is rainy and cold in our Summer).

Also, as impressive as Iguacu is, if you only have a week and mongering is the priority I'd skip it. Really I'd bail on BA also as a week is the bare minimum to do Rio properly. If mongering is your priority I'd spend half the week in Sao Paolo and half in Rio. Make BA a separate trip (and NOT after April or before November).

I didn't know what single supplement is, but yes the direct link to the latin american agency says $380 extra to be a single in a hotel. And $130 entrance fee into B.A. Assume charter flights, but that doesn't really bother me if cheaper price. It appears all the cheapest airlines from US to L.A. are foreign so I can't get frequent flyer miles anyway you look at it. What caught my eye is that there is one departure every month from March 2010 to January 2011, so the seasonal restrictions are gone, but you have to book by Feb. 2010. Good info to consider though, thanks.

Too many destinations, not enough time. Iguazu falls is the only place on your itinerary that can reasonably be seen in 2 days.

I would not ever try to do BOTH BA and Rio in less than a week total. One or the other, not both.

It's a good price, but as others have said, you won't get much mongering in with that itinerary.

If you want any action while in Iguazu Falls, you'll most likely have to BYOG (bring your own girl) from Rio, then send her back. If you're on a tour, this presents a lot of complications - transportation, lodging, explaining her to the other tourists, ...

If you go on your own, you can do any of the tourist activities by booking day tours to Corcovado, Pão de Açúcar, Rocinha Favela, etc.

As part of a tour, you might get stuck at a hotel that does not allow short-term guests. Even ones that do may charge you a fee ($15-$30) to take a girl to your room.

Kind of sucks that Discoteca Help has been shut down. I spent many pleasurable evenings in that fine establishment.
