"BKK Hotel Choices have my head spinning??! Help"

   Hi All,

Planning a trip to Bangkok soon. There is a lot of hotels both here and the travel sites to choose from. I am looking for something that is nice, clean, and modern, yet still affordable and close to the action. Wondering if someone here can help me out. To give an idea of what I like, so far some that fit the bill are:

The Dawin Hotel
The Four Wings Hotel
Bally's Studio Suites Sukhumvit Hotel

Anyone have any knowledge on these or suggestions?

Appreciate any help:)

Thanks!

Can't speak to the others, but the Dawin is known to be a good choice that is completely guest friendly. There are TONS of others as well.

I stayed here and it was girl-friendly and very luxurious for the price:

My buddy stayed here and it was very good too, but more expensive than the PS mentioned above:

Darwin is fine its only about 2 yrs old or newer. Its about 2 blocks from Nana plaza on the same street Soi 4.

There is also the sister hotel Dynasty Grand closer and around the corner on soi 6.

http://www.dynastyinn.com/ <-- they are all part of the dynasty family both friendly

Both are clean and modern.

President solitaire is a great place but you are going to pay more for the better rooms and they are a bit warn. Its deep on soi 11. So not close to action but close to bed club ad Q bar.

Getting a hotel in BKK is the easy thing to do, i would even suggest to get 2 night only then look to see whats to your liking around the area since we all have different tastes, and if you are good with the hotel just extend your stay.. pretty easy.

Have a good time.

Landmark is superbly located and GF, but IMHO, it's a bit pricey relative to either Majestic Grande or JW Marriott. If you could get the Landmark for $85-90 a night, I'd recommend it. For over $100, I think that there are better values in BKK.

A friend of mine who gets around all of Asia, and frequents BKK a lot and likes to stay close to the action, recommends to me Le Fenix - a 3 star and starts at $48 in March when I am there. The other he likes is Livingstone's Lodge.

Here is a link with a nice review of girl friendly hotels:

http://hubpages.com/hub/Guest-Friendly-Bangkok-Hotels

I posted earlier regarding my plans for an all inclusive package with girl, airport pickup and hotel. Although the resort in the package is really nice, I am opting to be closer to places to eat and get around.

Here are hotels I am personally looking at, which came from girl friendly lists I researched on Orbitz. My criteria was $70 or so, 4 or 5 star in the Sukhumvit area. Since I am booking girls 24 hours at a time I am not particularly looking to be close to a lot of short term action.

I have a long list if anyone wants to PM me on girl friendly hotels, but I am reporting only ones that have dates, price range and listings on Orbitz.

Grand President, $50, 4 star
Royal President, $51, 4 star
President Park, $61, 4 star
Adelphi Suites, $69, 4 star
Citadines Bangkok Sukhumvit 8, $50, 4 star
Sacha's Hotel, $69, 4 star
Jasmine Executive Suite, $54,4 star

Places I personally stayed with no problem with girls are the Shangrila and the Banyon Tree... but these are 5 star hotels on business. This trip is on my own nickle / baht so looking for something that has a good bang for the buck.

My next step is to check Fordor's to see how close Orbitz 4 and 5 star ratings are. If anyone has any real world experience to any of the above it is appreciated. PM or post please.

***VERY IMPORTANT NEXT STEP is to verify if these hotels have changed their policy and requires a joiner fee and are guest / girl friendly.

Safe travels

Those "4 star" places are really 3 star places - not that they aren't perfectly decent places, but they lack the facilities beyond the room itself of legitimate international 4 star hotels - particularly in terms of dining and concierge and room service options. For context, the Majestic Grande and Landmark are legit 4 star full service hotels, and will cost in the vicinity of $100-$120 a night. The Sheraton Grande and the JW Marriott are legit 5* that will run in the vicinity of $150-200 a night. Most of the ones listed above are more akin to serviced apartments - good quality rooms, not much in the way of other facilities that comprise a 4 star hotel.

The Dawin and Le Fenix are in the same class as those 3* places listed above, (and I'd add the Key and the SilQ to that list as well). The Dynasty Grande is slightly better if you value a good-sized swimming pool and fitness room. Any of these places is OK, and should be chosen based on price and exact location. Personally, I think that the Dynasty Grande is the best you can get for $70 or so. For $55-60, I like the Dawin or the SilQ. For $50, the Key or the Le Fenix. A legitimate international 4* will run more than $70 a night unless you get a super deal. I'd consider the Dynasty Grande to be close to a 4* - a legit 3.5*. If their restaurant was better (esp. for non-thai food - where they are quite weak), I'd give it 4*.

Note - every place I listed has no joiner fee. In the list in the prior post, I'm not sure about Sacha's, I believe that the others are all guest friendly with no joiner fee. The SilQ is next door to Sacha's and quite similar, except I can vouch that it has no joiner fee - as I stayed there about 6 weeks ago. The bed itself was the highlight of the hotel - a superbly comfortable bed with high quality bedding that is unusually good for a hotel of that class and price in Bangkok. My only gripe with the SilQ was, no pool or fitness room.

   All

Thanks for the reality check, its clear that Orbitz suffers from viagra star inflation, but at least it seems to be directionally correct. I'm glad you brought up these other hotels as almost half of the girl friendly hotel list I researched were missing on Orbitz. I will take a look at all the other great options, but can anyone specifically comment on:

Royal President - how's the location relative to places to eat within walking distance, sightseeing, girl watching and having pool / jacuzzi as I just want to relax while I am there

At $51 Royal President has on paper all the amenities I am looking for ... a tub to soak with my honey, breakfast, 30 sqm, DVD so we can watch movies together, safe, kitchenette and internet - 1999 thb

From my original short list last night the following hotels confirmed in writing that there is no joiner fee, but your friend has to show / leave her Thai ID at the front desk for your protection. Make sure you book your room for two.

Verified Guest Friendly:
- Royal President
- Adelphi Suites
- President Palace
- President Park - the Compass Group of hotels do not generally charge joiner fee in BKK, but does charge at the Andatel Hotel in Phuket 300 per person per day.

Thanks again guys for giving real world advise as I was just judging based on pictures and descriptions. Hopefully I have good luck with my 72 hour booking as I am selecting her based on pictures and descriptions as well (with the bail out clause if there is no chemistry - thanks for the advise in my previous post). I also elected to break up my 72 hours with two different girls just for a little variety \-)

Safe travels

i'll only comment on the ones where i've stayed...

in general, i'd rate these 3+ stars, not 4-star. but i think all offer good value and i'd stay at any of them again. prez park & jasmine were favorites of mine before i moved to bkk. i stayed @ grand prez on longer trips because it has good weekly & monthly rates (probably stayed a total of 2 months in that hotel).

all 3 are GF.

>Grand President, $50, 4 star

rooms in the annex across the street are a bit worn. good in the main building. soi 11 is getting pretty busy, for better or for worse. gym sucks. 10min walk to NEP, 15 to cowboy.

>President Park, $61, 4 star

great gym & restaurant/pool setting outside the gym. location is rough if you're only mongering... near Rama 4 & Suk Soi 24, it's a 20+ minute walk to sukhumvit. at the wrong times, it can be a 20+ minute drive too. on the other hand, people don't automatically assume you're in town to visit NEP/Cowboy if you stay here.

this is a great hotel for a "party room." 16th & 17th floors have huge rooms with huge balconies (as big as the rooms), at reasonable rates. i found them accidentally (auto-upgraded into 1 of them once when all rooms of my type were booked), but now use them as a default room.

>Jasmine Executive Suite, $54,4 star

love this location. only 1 min from soi cowboy, but the real bonus is that it's across the street from my favorite restaurant. there's also now an indoor walkway from across the street to Sukhumvit MTR, and then of course an underground walk from there to Asoke BTS. rooms are nicer her than prez park & grand prez, and some have great views of bkk.

I usually stay at the Majestic Suites on Sukhumvit and have been very pleased with it. Very reasonably priced, guest friendly, and a very nice location. They also let you use the gym at the Majestic Grand, which is not too far.

Oh yeah, do you guys book a room with breakfast if it is not included and at an extra charge?

Personally, I'd rather saw down my morning wood than eat, but if hotels serve breakfast until 11 I can get up (err, I mean out) of the room by then.

If Breakfast is included in the rate, I will generally get it, but if it's cheaper without Breakfast, I don't generally book it. A couple of pieces of fruit and a baguette or croissant bought at the local supermarket is all I need for breakfast. Generally that's between 60-80 baht's worth.

It also depends what you are into GoGo's or Soapies.

I like to stay in on Ratchada by the nice soapies

Warlock... 72 hours only on pictures? What made u go this route? sounds like you have been in BKK a few times, best to be on the ground to pick your 72 hour playmate.

Le Fenix is across Q bar the floors facing soi are noisy, and the aircon in that place is not very good.

   GL

This will be my third trip to Bangn' Bangkok \-)

I know going on pictures is not the optimum thing to do, but I have my reasons listed in an earlier post ...

411 Bangkok All Inclusive Escort Package - Anyone Done This

... but appreciate your insight and thanks for your help.

As for hotel getting back to the original thread, I am leaning toward Royal President as it has all the amenities I am looking for. Should be finalizing my accommodations and trip in the next few days after I check into a few more hotels you folks suggested.

Safe travels
