"US State Department removes travel warning to Thailand"

Here is a link to the US State Department's announcement:

http://bangkok.usembassy.gov/060310wardenmessage.html

So, with this good news it looks like I will be making a visit to Pattaya sometime in late June/early July. Last trip I stayed at Flipper Lodge and will never stay there again. I have heard some good things about the Eastiny, but they have 4 (or is it 5) locations. Which is the best bang for the buck? Looking in the $30 a night range and figure that should not be too hard to get since tourists have been staying away.

And yes, I have done a search but it came back with stuff not related to Pattaya and there were hundreds of posts to pour through. Maybe my search was not narrow enough but I entered Pattaya hotel, do I need quotation marks?

Is there more than one Eastiny in the Soi 7/8 area? Because IIRC, that's the one that gets frequently recommended.

Don't have anything to add in that price range, but if you decide to go a bit higher, the Areca (on Soi Diana Inn) and the Dynasty Inn (on Soi 13) are both good central spots in the ~$50/night range.

Check out Sandy Spring Hotel http://www.sandyspringhotel.com/index.html
They are located on Soi 13, good location and rates start around $36 per night.

Interesting to see the rates there haven't gone up as much as some other places have. I've never stayed there (I think I emailed once and all rooms allowed smoking, which is a no-go for me) but the location on Soi 13 is near-ideal. The Dynasty Inn is one the same block, but at the end near 2nd road rather than nearer Beach Road.

There are 5 different Eastiny hotels in the Soi 7/8 area. I've stayed at the Eastiny Inn, and there are also the Eastiny 7, Eastiny BellVista, Eastiny Place, and Eastiny Plaza.

I thought the Eastiny Inn was OK, nothing special, nothing terribly bad, but it, along with the Eastiny 7, was also the cheapest of the bunch. The Eastiny Place and Eastiny Plaza seemed to me to be the nicest of them, but they probably will run about $10/nt more than the Eastiny Inn or Eastiny 7. I don't know anything about the BellVista. The Eastiny Inn, Place, and Plaza are all within 100 meters of each other on Soi 8. If you want to be in the thick of the action, the location is excellent.

For my money, I'd rather stay at the Sabai Inn which is down on Soi 2, a slightly quieter area right by the Big C mall. You are only 10 baht away from more of the action via the baht buses.

The Dynasty has a lovely roof top pool and free transport in a van to BKK if you are spending your last night in the Dynasty BKK hotel there before flying out, and is right around the corner from Cowboy, if I remember correctly.

Take a look at the Sabai hotels on 2nd road near the dolphin roundabout. It's a bit out of the way of things, but I liked it. I stayed at the Sabai Empress and very nice room, although no balcony. Nice big bed and big electonic in room safe. Check out the Sabai lodge too, as they have a larger pool, and more of a resort feel. I would recommend getting a moto bike too, a decent price is to pay 150 baht a day to rent, with a 1000 baht deposit. Trust me, these things are not as dangerous as they look, its basically like riding bicycles with a bunch of people. You won't regret it.

I particularly like the Sabai Inn. Big, well appointed rooms, very good value, and you can use the pools at the Sabai Lodge, which is 20 meters away across the street. IMHO, the inexpensive rooms at the Sabai Lodge are nowhere near as nice as the similarly priced rooms at the Sabai Inn. The location for these places is very good for shopping and dining options around the Big C mall, and the baht buses make it easy to get to the areas with more action for a 10 baht fare.

Areca was a nice place, I also really like the Pasadena Lodge ... no Pool but rooms are nice and I like the location on TK Metro. Rooms start at about $26/night.
