"Help with a late July Trip"

I know this is kind of general but I've been searching the archives trying to plan my next trip. The problem is I don't know where that should be. I think I may have been spoiled on my last trip a few months ago to Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. I probably will not travel as far this trip especially at this time of year during the rainy season. So, I'm looking for something a little closer to home. One thought was Central America. Mexico also came to mind but is less desirable. Any suggestions for a week long trip where the prices are not too expensive and not that far away from CA?

Thanks

Is Colombia relatively safe for a lone traveler? I thought about Brazil but that may seem too obvious to my SO.

Cartagena is relatively safe. There used to be a direct flight from Miami.

With the Loonie now costing you $0.94, Canada is no longer quite the bargain it used to be. But with a direct flight on AC (only 25K *A miles, if you're lucky), and reasonable prices for good service providers, I still think Montreal is one of the best options for week long hobbying trip...

Thanks for the tip. When I lived in the East coast, I used to enjoy visiting that city. Now, you're giving me some ideas for future overseas mongering trip. Can you give us some ideas where to get some mongering info?

for Montreal merb.ca and the Dave in Phoenix spreadsheet (google it).

Brasil IS obvious to most SOs, Colombia much less likely to raise eyebrows in that regard (but the PERCEPTION of danger there will still cause many queries). IMHO, Colombia is safer than most mongering districts here and WAY safer than Oakland that is for sure.

Costa Rica is not a bad choice either. My friend has a condo there, so when I need some beach/hobbying time away from home, it works for me.
