"Panama City"

Flew down to PC with a few fishing pals to wet our lines in the pristine Panamanian fishing grounds.

We had to spend a few days in the city, of course, to wet our whistles. What follows are some random observations from the trip.

Flew down and back on Continental, through Houston to PTY. Remind me to grab a non-stop flight on another airline next time...even if it does originate out a LAX.

Stayed one night in the Veneto Hotel-Casino. I was anticipating checking in to a hotel that was just infested with beautiful working girls. The place was totally deserted when we checked in about mid-afternoon. Even so, there were "guards" with walkie-talkies on every floor to make sure the girls stayed out of the hotel. I asked the guy on my floor what was going on, and he said there had been some unfortunate incidents with the girls and so they were not letting them roam the floors. He then offered to get me a girl if I wanted one. So...still guest friendly, just not as wild as reported in some internet accounts.

Since the Veneto was lacking in prospects, I took a walk a few doors down to the Oasis massage place to give that a sniff. The mamasan was looking fine, but her stable was just not my type so I decided to have some lunch, take a siesta and then take a look at plan C in the early evening.

Plan C was to visit the Golden Time massage "saloon", just a short cab ride from the Veneto. We got there just a few minutes before opening time, around 7 PM. The GT is located in a strip mall, just a small storefront between a jewelry store and an electronics place (or something). There were a few fine young ladies waiting out front, waiting for someone to unlock the door. What that was, of course, was nothing more than a street-clothes line up. So me and the cabbie took the opportunity to evaluate each of the chicas. We rated the girls based on age, conformance with the height-weight chart, presentation of the rack and so on. Quite an amusing pastime on a warm Panama evening.

The place opened up, and I went in and paid the $94.50 entry fee, all in US dollars, which is the coin of the realm. I was directed into a waiting room, and a mamasan offered me a drink and brought me a pen and paper to take notes during the line-up. By and by, the girls were brought in one by one. There were quite a few nice ones on duty that night, believe me. The entry fee covered all services, which were outstanding.

I got back to the Veneto say about 8:30, there was not a chica to be found in the casino, so I hit the rack. The next morning I heard the place finally got hopping around midnight or so, complete with a raft of working girls.

Then we went fishing for a week around the Panamanian out-islands.

On the return we stayed at the Marriot hotel-casino. We arrived at mid afternoon, and there were no working girls to be seen. Around 6:30, I made a beeline back to Golden Time for another visit. The second time was just as sweet as the first. Both times were indeed Golden.

Back at the Marriot, things were starting to heat up. There is a bar "complex" located just across the street called "Habana" Club.
There is a small cigar shop on the left side of the photograph, which opens into a small bar at the back of the shop, and another adjacent bar/pool room next to that. After dark, the place becomes infested with chicas of all shapes, sizes and nationalities. The entire patio along the storefront is just packed.

My fishing buddy picked up a gorgeous $200 lady in the cigar bar, and they walked back into the hotel through the casino entrance no problema. I was asleep by 10, but got similar reports that the action got better with time. It looks like the MO is to keep the girls away from the hotel until all a the respectable folks are asleep, then it's party time.

Bottom line: fantastic trip, hotels were great and lots of pretty girls are available for the night owls.

Note: having technical difficulties loading some photos due to file size.

The Golden Time experience was just fantastic. When I learn how to resize jpeg files, I'll post a few.

The massage entry fee is all-inclusive...keeping in mind that the dollar goes much farther in Panama than it does here. The fee covers one hour at least. In my case, all services were covered, but the girl was gorgeous, friendly and we had no trouble communicating. The mamasan spoke passable English.

There were all shapes and sizes of RA's available...some were locals and some were from Colombia. I'd say there were better than 15 girls working at the time we visited.

The fishing was sensational. The water was mostly glass-flat, clear blue and just infested with dorado and yellowfin. We spent about a week circling Isla de Coiba.

I HATE it when I don't get to see pictures from a fellow monger because of resizing issues !

Goto http://www.irfanview.com/ and download the FREE program. Its really good, I've been using it for years.

1) Run the program and load your picture using the standard FILE,OPEN, ETC.

2) Click: IMAGE,Resize/Resample and a menu will appear.

3) Click the radio button "Set new size:"

4) Near the bottom left, click the box "Preserve aspect ratio..."

5) Above that enter either the width or height, and select "pixels" below.

6) Click "OK".

7) Click "Save as", and either rename the file, or put it in a different directory. {so you don't wipe out the full size image}

That's all ! Its very easy, and there are many other options, including the ability to rotate images, and resize entire directories at once.

Hope to see your pics soon.

I have been lurking on RB for quite some time now, but don’t usually post as I don’t have much useful information. Although I have no plans of traveling internationally any time soon, this is by far the best and most informative forum on RB. Hell, even the disagreements are more civil than most of the other chatter on RB.

That being said, the easiest image resizer is a Microsoft PowerTool. Once installed, you simply right click on the image and select “resize image” while viewing it in the folder.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
(scroll down the page, the link is on the right side)

Thanks again for all of the information in this forum, hopefully it will be useful to me someday.

OK...let's see if this little experiment works.

A tip of the hat and a pat on the back here for my fellow RB brethren for their kind guidance and technical support.

only 1 chica pic even after all that tech support? You disappoint us ):

There are many image resizers (i use www.freeimageresizer.com.) I avoid products of the evil empire (Microsoft) whenever possible.

I was lucky to walk away with the one shot, taken on the second visit. This lovely senorita wanted nothing to do with any photos.

At the time, the best I could do was frame the shot such that a bonus mirror reflection was captured on the sly.

The way I see it, the photograph...plus bonus reflection aspect...makes us just about even for any and all of said technical support, does it not?

Most of the dorado were in the 12 to 20 pound class, with the biggest caught near 30 pounds. The tuna were generally in the 15 to 20 pound class, with the largest say 45 pounds. All of this was on light to medium tackle, mind you. We released most of the fish, keeping only what we wanted to eat that day, plus whatever the crew wanted to keep for their families. We were dragging pieces of yellowfin through soy and wasabi within 2 minutes of docking at the mothership.

A group of us chipped in and chartered a live-aboard "mothership" which has several smaller skiffs that travel with it. So we could get to the fishing grounds in anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. The longest cruise to any fishing grounds was about an hour out to a shelf where the big marlin hang out. Most of the time we spent much closer in.

We usually did a morning shift say from 7 to 12, then an afternoon shift from say 1 to last light. There were some days when we couldn't see another boat, even along the far horizon.

The bottom line was that whatever the species, Panama is a target-rich environment.
