"Airfare to LOS"

I went to LOS in December 09 and paid about $800 for a RT flight via EVA Air. So I'm looking to go again sometime between now and Dec 10, but fare have almost doubled. Even if I look up a flght in Dec 2010 it's twice as much as it was last year, and last year I booked within a week of going.

I haven't searched other airlines but is this the going rate now. Approx. $1600 from SF to LOS?

Thanks

No, you can go for less you just have to change your dates. You probably put in a holiday period. I've seen a lot less already on two airlines including EVA so just do the work.

To each his own.

I have flown EVA Evergreen Deluxe/Elite many times, and the pattern on prices used to be somewhat predictable. The price would start out high for a flight and then about 1 to 2 months before a flight, the price would dip and then rise again. Sometimes there would be another price dip in the two weeks before a flight. I would try to buy in the price dip periods and could usually do so by being patient.

Now that they have downsized the planes from 747s to 777s it seems that the price starts out high, and then ticks up closer to the departure, without any price reductions! Bummer.

You can look on Kayak, if you want lower fares and are open to using other airlines. I punched in a sample of SFO - BKK round trip from 10/5 - 10/26, for example. It came up with a fare of $874 on Korean air and $888 on China Air.

I booked on China Airlines a few weeks ago for $923 RT FROM SFO to BKK for Oct 8-24th. At that time the EVA flights were a few hundred more. I think your problem may be that December timeframe and I'd use Mobissimo or similar to search other airlines.

The other day I looked and the Eva flights had come down to a little over 1000 and had a little better schedule now than when I originally booked on China Arlines because a week ago China Airlines informed me that they'd cancelled my flight from Taipei to Bkk and I'd either have to fly a day earlier or later or fly to HKG and then Bkk from Taipei thus putting me in Bkk at 1:30 pm instead of 11:30 am. I decided it was worth it to spend two more hours rather than have to take an additional vacation day or sacrifice a day of vacation merely to avoid an extra stop (don't even change planes in HKG) and save two hours and hassle with change fees, etc.

I guess my general rule is to just book something if it seems like a good deal, etc. One has to weigh the costs and risks associated with everything when deciding.

I was waiting to book a standard room at this hotel I wanted to stay at in Bali and figured I had plenty of time since it was three months in advance then I noticed for my last night someone had snatched up the room on Agoda so I booked the first six nights and just took the deluxe room for the seventh. Then I noticed a few days later, there weren't any rooms available for the last few days at all. Sometimes it's worth the peace of mind to go ahead and pay a little more than risk mising a room or flight or trip you really wanted......at least for me.

See if you can wait for the year to be over. Seems that the Shanghai Expo has really raised prices to go anywhere in Asia. I was looking into going to HK and usually would be looking at 650 to 800, but can't find anything lower than 950 on a good airline.

Should be able to go between $950-$1100 depending on the dates on Cathay (or about $1300 for a miles-earning fare.) Have been looking at Nov, but I'd be surprised if cheaper fares for Sept-Oct have sold out.

Non-mile earning fares on JAL are similar, and I think I saw similar fares on UAL. JAL codeshares on AA are through the roof, near $2000 with taxes.

I'll second that. I'm a lurker here kinda, but looking to go to either Germany or Thailand for a little R&R. Even prices on Priceline.com are outrageous. The only decent deals to be found it seems, are on Kayak. For the End of August and the beginning of September. I think due to Oktoberfest coming up shortly, prices are way down for Europe during the Autumn months. However, prices to South America are really cheap in the $800 range for August! Bootsnall travel is a really good website for good, cheap, affordable travel. Even with a good deal though, I'm thinking that I'm going to need at least $2000 to have a decent time wherever I go.

I hear what you're saying, I'm planning a trip back to LOS for mid-Dec to mid-Jan and the current prices are absolutely ridiculous! But if I remember correctly, I didn't purchase my tickets for the same time last year until about Oct/Nov. Regardless, I'll be watching the prices and I have Airfarewatchdog enabled to track prices for that time period.

On that note, anybody out there know a better airfare tracker? Airfarewatchdog is sufficient, I'm just asking if anyone has had a better experience with another tracking site.

Good luck!

I don't know a good tracker - I just watch the routes I care about every couple of days.

FWIW, a lot of the better fares to Asia right now run out 10/21. I'll try to post when I see that date extended.

I like Bing.com's flight search tools and they have a tracker but you need to sign in with a Windows Live ID to use the tracker.
