"How to go to TH without going to TH?"

Hey Gents,

I'm starting to think of some plans to escape the US during the xmas holiday. I am looking for a possible alternative to TH.

Been to TH about 8-9 times now over the years and it's really, really getting to be old hat. The last couple times I visited I didn't hit any go-gos or lady bars and am really getting that been there done that feeling.

Last time I went other than seeing an old fav a couple times I mostly indulged in daily massages, drinking, eating, people-watching, and just relaxing with a book on the beach or by the pool.

I am looking for a similar but different destination, if that makes any sense. I like the modern infrastructure yet cheaper prices of TH and enjoy the food and friendliness of the culture.

I am doing a little research on Indo/Bali (never been) and thinking of a possible sequel to my 2005 visit to Rio. I've thought about PI too - but not a fan of PI food and doesn't seem like they do the massage thing too much over there. But, hey, what do I know?

I would like to get some input from the experts on the Intl board.

Again, I like eating and drinking good food, going to scenic areas such as beaches/mountain towns, enjoy massages, and maybe if the stars align, could find a companion for a getaway.

Appreciate any suggestions.

HK is a nice option, great infrastructure and very modern indeed, english spoken, and with the walk ups, prices are very cheap at 400 HKD or around $55 USD for ST pretty young chinese ladies.

LT is available in Wai Chai are after 10pm in one of may bars like Neptunes and Amazonia, taxi there at night, FL galore indeed. Check out the HK threads...

You should also consider Macau, many great stunners and great serviced spas, find FL ladies in all of the Hotel casine floors just walking around, and the famous track in the Lisboa hotel where the girls walk the track after 9pm nightly looking for ST clients.

Found plenty of poon in Shanghai - look at the threads.

Singapore, plenty of pretty ladies in Orchard Towers, famous for poon, great food, very good infratructure, safe a VERY clean and safe, and girl friendly,

PI. may thread on the great ladies and the GFE of the Filapinas, you don;t need to eat local food if you dont want to, just order good salads and burgers and stuff you like - that is true in ANY country.

Locally, fly to San Diego and go to TJ, it is not the same as Asia, but good Latina girls are available for $25 USD for street girls for FS< to $60 USD for bar girls for FS and some stunners are there for sure, need a passport and easy 90 min flight south, again- check the threads here is rb, an easy trip and cheap.

so how are those choices for a start? h2p

you can eat well in the PI without ever having to resort to local food. Puerto Galera is loaded with good European restaurants. Christmas is best, though most crowded and costly, time to go. No soapies like in LOS to my knowledge, but not in Bali either. Indonesia is in Southern hemipsphere so Xmas is often lousy weather (rainy season).

Viet Nam and Laos are lovely over XMAS, or try Myanmar which has a good scene in Yangon by most accounts. Cambodia is but a shell of its former self according to the regulars, but Angkor is unique and worth a visit even without the action.

I'm going to Bali in Oct. I'll let you know my impressions having been to Thailand quite a few times as well as Vietnam, Cambo, Phils, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia....however, most of these countries only once...I've got some good connections in Bali already with women that live there as well as a couple of expats that have lived there for years...one with a Balinese wife and three kids and he says one of his brother in laws knows "every single nook and cranny and then some for girls in Bali."

I'm not the hard core monger type where that's all I do or think about 24/7 while I'm there and back in the USA (like many on this board seem to be) so I have a little different focus perhaps.

I prefer Thailand because of it's basic friendliness, pretty good infrastructure, affordability, attractiveness of the women, (at least to me) and the fact there's plenty to do besides seeing girls...

I just keep comparing the other places to the LOS and nothing really piques my interest all that much if you are just comparing Thailand to other countries, but it depends on what you are looking for...

The most awesome thing I've seen in any of these countries has to be Angkor Wat near Siem Reap, Cambodia. Just depends on what you want.

Good luck.

I have to agree with you regards the philippines, while I love the diving there I think the food sucks horses ass no matter whether its western or filipino food. Its the main reason I won't go back for a while. I was going to suggest brazil though it seems you've been there and anyway its gotten too expensive. Based on your preferences I would suggest either vietnam or indonesia (my preference). Then there's always either peru or colombia in south america. However nowhere seems to be as easy when it comes to picking up companions as thailand.

Good luck.

You can go round and round and round and round and it's still hard to beat Thailand.

I'm proud of myself for not bashing Spain's job and the end results in the Phils and Mexico. I guess that's the result of millions of kids and do nothing governments, too.

Thanks to everyone replying...

Yes, this is my fear. That TH is so completely unique in that it is:
1. Very easy to get around and with nice but affordable lodging
2. The people are friendly (more so if you have $$$ of course)
3. It's relatively safe - minimal or no crime
4. The strange but great thing of massage businesses all over the place
5. This is a preference, but I love Thai food
6. Mongering options from HE massage to the craziest things you can dream up (though like fieldofdreams - I hardly even monger anymore - though it is nice to have an option for companionship or a massage should the desire strike you).
7. Many things to do, beaches, mountains, the capital city has plenty of great restaurants and clubs/bars.

I'd be willing to try PI. I've certainly enjoyed Surfer's and others' trip reports over the years. However, I have zero interest in Angeles as it appears to be strictly a monger's heaven without anything else to do. And Manila sounds a bit daunting to a newbie like me. Obviously there are some scenic, beautiful places to go in PI but, unless I'm mistaken, seems much harder to get around than flying up to Chiang Mai or down to Phuket. What places in PI would be comparable to CNX and Phuket? Has Surfer ever written a comprehensive guide? Would love to see something like this.

I suppose what drew me to Indo is the renown beauty and seems there is a lot of massage there. Also dated an Indo girl this last year and from what I learned it appeared they are a friendly, laid-back culture. Indo food is decent too. From what I hear the Indo girls really like the foreigners - I actually prefer to meet civilian females if possible. Seem to remember reading some reports on here about finding a companion for a day or night trip. Fieldofdreams, sounds like you have a great thing going with some contacts already lined up - great for you!

I'd be curious to hear more about PI and Indo...

I don't know about Indonesia, but I think that Vietnam has all the elements you seek, although maybe not at quite the same level as Thailand.

The other places mentioned - HK, PI - have SOME of what you want, but with major chunks missing.

HK doesn't really have much in the way of opportunities for travel to mountain villages etc or great tropical beaches. And the food in PI is just horrible, whether local or Western food. (What is that nasty taste/smell that all the food has, is it rancid cooking oil?)

ARGH! This FALLACY about ALL food in the PI being bad is ridiculous. It simply is NOT TRUE. There are excellent restaurants that rival anything in Thailand (except for thai food). Makati is loaded with fine eateries, Ermita has loads and even Angeles has a couple (e.g. C's Italian).

Infrastructure is inferior to LOS but not hard to fly to the beauty.
BYOB is better for most the remote areas i prefer, but girls can be found for sure even in the most far flung corners.

Camus I have just started a compilation of photo essays of the best beaches.

Sometime I will consolidate the many PI reports (a lot never posted here) and share a link.

I love Indonesia also and rate Indo girls as tops (along with Filipinas). Plus it is dry season there now. But wait until after Ramnadan which starts next week I believe (moderator of another board is in jakarta now and describes elevated polisi activity).

I LOVE the Philippines and especially the people (and especially the women). But I have never found a single thing to eat there that I would consider good, except fruit. In fact I can guarantee a weight loss of at least 5lbs a week there.

I couldn't even find french fries that didn't have that disgusting taste. What is that? A salad better than at the high school cafeteria? Forget it.

I can certainly accept that others are likely a lot less picky than me, but come on now - the food sucks.

I had a hard time finding healthy thing to eat in the Philippines, but man... most of the meat-heavy pork and chicken dishes are pretty good (and the chicken doesn't taste all gamey the way it does in LOS.) For that matter, as fast food places go, Jollibee isn't bad, beats KFC - although I'd avoid the burgers and hot dogs.

Is the food as good as Thailand? Not by a long shot if you like a lot of Asian cuisine, but it's a lot more white middle-American friendly.

Prurient: I also lose weight when I'm there too, but NOT because you cannot get a decent meal. And I challenge you to a blind french fry test; I do not think you could tell the difference between say a McD's fry from US. Thailand, Japan , PI etc. IMHO its in your MIND not taste buds.

MH: I HATE Jollibee. Just an example, IMHO the roasted chicken at the Kenny Rogers chain is WAY BETTER than anything you can get a chain here (maybe Boston market). There is lots of good Asian food, Korean and Japanese at least, in most Filipine cities. Angeles and manila have GREAT teppanyaki, sushi, bulgoggi etc.

If a McD's fry falls into the category of "excellent" or "fine" then perhaps

 Camus-

Have you thought about Colombia or Peru? I travelled to Colombia in 2008, and had a wonderful time. The women there are absolutely gorgeous, and the prices were very, very reasonable. Cartagena is stunning, and Medellin and Bogota are very nice as well. After a few 20 hour flights to Thailand and with the time change, it takes at least a day or two for me to get my bearing. The nice thing about traveling in the Western Hemisphere is that you don't have to deal with the same type of jet lag.

In terms of culture, Peru is great with Machu Pichu and the like, and there are lots of mongering options down there.

Good luck.
