"Good tv and internet in paradise?"

Of all the places commonly mentioned here, how many have accessible and affordable good satellite or cable TV, and high speed internet ?

BA,Peru, Ecuador, CHile, PI, phuket, etc?

People here talk about rainy seasons being slow, and such. Give me good quality affordable satellite TV and internet, and that goes a long way toward keeping me occupied in a slow season.

Of your list, I can only speak to Phuket. Internet in LOS is notoriously inconsistent. That said, I have never experienced issues with "up" time and in the few places I've stayed in Patong. I'm able to watch video even using WiFi (doubt I would be able to have a seamless stream of HD on the WiFi, but . . .)

As for Sat, it's all over the place. I've heard of being able to bounce from Sat to Sat using TelStar if you buy your own satellite dish which should allow you to get to our networks. I'm pretty sure that you'd need a house (maybe you can get away with a townhouse) to install one. Which BTW can't be sold freehold to farangs, even though technically US has reciprocal agreement with LOS (from Vietnam-era) to allow Americans the right own business(es) and property. The ruling as I understand it, is generally not upheld & hard to do and I can't imagine how much the bribes cost or if the paper you hold would stand up in court.

Back on track, I don't know if this is software or hardware to find content (instead of being locked into a network like DirectTV). What I don't know is if the effort required to do this is like early days of residential satellite (before the consumer networks like Direct and Dish).

Cable is a limited choice, but doesn't really cater to farang. Cable installation requires infrastructure--something not normally found in LOS. Basically, no sewer system means no cable as LOS manages raw waster primarily with septic tanks.

True/UBC is the evil empire and I don't know if you'll find cable outside of BKK or Pattaya.
**This is not to be confused with UBC Satellite service which you can get almost everywhere in the tourist zones.

In short, that is an awful lot of work just to watch TV. It might work out best to just get a Slingbox here and view it there. (again no idea on the HD reception)
