Thanks all for the suggestions.I am presently staying at S15, Sukhumvit corner soi 15, great location, nice boutique hotel, girl friendly, and excellent included breakfast plus included internet. A bargain at latestays price of 2400 THB per night for a double room including tax and service.
Rates go up September 1 (why?), although not as much as previously advertised. So I have taken a look around the neighborhood for boutique (small hotels) which are in this neighborhood (close to soi Cowboy and NEP), citing latestays.com prices for a double room including breakfast, internet, and tax and service. Prices for mid-September, when I will return to Bangkok. Prices my go higher in October or November when real high-season rates will likely begin.
S15: nice hotel, nice rooms, great shower, fine location, rate will be 2600 THB per night starting September 1, up from present 2400 THB rate. Still probably an ok deal.
Dream: nice hotel, nice rooms, located just down soi 15 from S15, girls like sexy blue lights under bed, I remember ok breakfast from before. Latestays price in September for three-night minimum is a low 2300 THB per night including breakfast and internet for a double room. Probably the best deal around if you are staying minimum three nights.
S Sukhumvit Suites, new hotel, located right at Sukhumvit soi 21 (soi Asoke), thus less than 100 meters from soi Cowboy. Reputed to be girl friendly. I toured a few rooms yesterday, clean and modern, good bathrooms, superior room is small, deluxe is about the right size for me (and companion). Price on latestays in September is a low 2025 THB/night superior, 2475 THB per night deluxe. Some concern about street noise from proximity to Sukhumvit, but rooms seemed quite during brief visit.
I will check out Adelphi Suites, down soi 8, this morning. Latestays rates show 2250-2609 THB per night including breakfast and internet, rates higher on weekends than weekdays. Seems to be a good location, I'll check it out.
Likely plan for me is to return to Dream Hotel in mid-September, as I'll be staying three nights, and my recollection is that Dream is as nice as S15, just a block further from Sukhumvit. However, S15 has a bit of chic class, understated and cool, which I don't recall from my previous stay at Dream.
Note: a buddy recently stayed at Millennium on soi Asoke, 5 stars, relatively low price on latestays, however, management was rude and room was exceptionally noisy due to adjacent construction. He moved to Grand Sukhumvit, expensive, but lovely rooms and fabulous buffets (expensive).
