"LA Cafe re-opened in Manila..."

   I was reading on another site that LA Cafe has re-opened as Manila Bay Cafe and that in the interim a nice park with a lake and open space for families to picnic has been built replacing the dirty streets, filth, pick-pockets, robbers, and street urchins that used to surround the old LA Cafe.

Ok, kidding about the second part, but not the re-opened part. ;

LA Cafe's Facebook page says the cafe is reopened as of last Friday

Apparently the new name is Manila Bay Cafe.
No more imitation of LA Cafe, Cape Town.

word is it looks like will be back to business as usual but word is not out yet so VERY few customers or girls. Decor same, menu same, price list same.

Meanwhile amazonia across the street has taken up the slack somewhat. I did not stop by (I am at my apartment with Mrs surfer in far northern PI) to personally verify but have it from very reliable sources who live in manila.

   Just got back to states from PI...dropped by the 'M-Bay Cafe" a couple times in the past two days...just doesn't have the same feel as before (not that it was anything other than quickie take out before)...what bothered me was that street hustlers are inside pimping pool games and food/drinks from the customers and even the girls...probably party loyalists lol...I signed a chit for a certain amount and when I got ready to leave that same chit was doctored and 500 more pesos added to it...manager came up with some lame excuse and then made the waitress seem the culprit...I paid the original amount and split. Seems as if the new "tax structure" is impacting everyone...lots of new faces and not in the way you would want it...girl quality about the same but they're really being hassled about ordering drinks...seems as if the girls are also down with the gig of asking for more and only wanting short time so they can grab another...if this was a stock id short it...on the flip side my cherry trip to Angeles was great...report more later...don't be put off by the AC headlines...there is plenty of action at all levels and you dont hear of cutomers being hauled away in these raids so if you do get caught up in something like this walk on to the next one...hey you might even get a few fee drinks out of it lol...hint: best action for me was daytime on Perimeter and smaller bars near Wild Orchid and PB...of course if you want to hang with your friends bar hopping at night then by all means Fields is a can't miss...

   Can anyone recommend a hotel hear the LA Cafe? Isn't the Southern Cross hotel nearby?

Thanks in advance.

   Personally I've never had issues with Bayview Park which is walking distance and $50 a night with breakfast on Expedia..girl friendly..Starbucks attached to it (if you're addicted like me)..my suggestion for LA Cafe would be to go after 10pm and go upstairs..

most like Executive plaza on Mabibi, about $50 but ripoff for wifi and very noisy. Book at asiatravel.com or other site for discounted rate. Across street from Hyatt casino. Diamond is great if you can spend over 120 on a room and dont mind being a small minority among Japanese and Korean guests.

Bayview park is quite a bit longer walk from the cafe but is also fine. Ditto Southern Cross.

I stayed at Executive Plaza when I was there. It's actually on "Mabini." I wouldn't stay there again. The whole area is crappy in my opinion. I'd try some of other areas in Manila such as Makati if you are intent on seeing Manila (I have no idea why anyone would want to with so many better choices available). If you do decide to stay there, good luck and watch your back. I was robbed in that area my second night there. There's shady folks and street urchins every 10 feet. You are warned.

Good luck!!

Not my favorite area either and yes there are street urchins all over that block in particular. My views on the wonders of Filipina girls (and your robbery incident) are well known so no need to repeat them.
