The reference to many Afro-Mexicans living in the Veracruz area is of interest.Four years ago in TJ, I met a woman at AB whose skin color could best be described as "indigo." I ran into her again a couple of weeks ago, and she is clearly of African ethnic origin. I had explored her backround when I initially met her and her reply was simply, "Why, I'm from Acapulco" as if that would explain everything.
The subject has intrigued me since it occurred to me that, unlike the US, the Caribbean countries and some of South America, there seems to be a very minute African presence or influence in Mexico. Never had met one before and cannot think of a single prominent Black in Mexican politics, sports, entertainment, etc.
Anyone familiar with Mexican history who can make sense of her Acapulco explanation?
