"Singapore Air vs Asiana Air"

I'm debating which airline I want to take with my final destination to MNL. With Asiana Air I have a 6hr layover in Korea. Singapore, I will have an overnight stay arriving 11pm and departing next day at 5pm.

Question:

1. Which will have better offering?
2. If I op for Singapore, where should I stay? I like long time (overnights).
3. Anything worth doing in Korea with my 6hr of layover?

thx guys

6 hours isn't enough time to do anything.

I'd choose Singapore, hands down.

Depending on your level of budget and debauchery, you can stay near Orchard Tower or Downtown area for high-end. Or Hotel 81 in Geylang if you want more "budget" and you literally want to be in the thick of it.

My $0.02

   I concur.
You'd be an hour+ in each direction from the airport to try and do anything, which means in reality you would just wait out the layover in the airport.
Singapore is the winner. I have often stayed at the Royal Plaza on Scotts Road (intersection with Orchard). It is much cheaper than the Hyatt across the street (which I love for the Brix bar downstairs), is walking distance to Orchard Towers (a must see), and is in a nice area to look around and shop the next day after you send your visitor away.

Fly Singapore every chance you get. In my opinion the best airline in the world and I have flown many of them.

Another hotel recommendation in SG is the Orchard Hotel next to Orchard Towers. Not the nicest or the cheapest hotel in SG but for an overnight it gets the job done especially since it's right next to the Four Floors. Not cheap though, I think my executive room was about $200 a night.

Peace

sorry correction.... 11.5hrs in Korea

But looks like the verdict is Singapore Air... I was too leaning towards that as I'll have a night of action!

Pros and cons to each.

Airlines: agree SQ is World's best, but Asiana is in top 5 for sure and won Skytraxx award as airline of the year for 2009. BOTH are first rate.

The big DISADVANTAGE is that you are adding 6 hours of flying time EACH WAY by going to SIN; look at a map and you'll see why. SIN is more than 3 hours further West whereas Seoul is directly north of Manila.

Also, you are partly incorrect about schedule: there is a 12 hour layover ON WAY BACK but only 2 hours on the way over so you get to Manila one night sooner than if you transit SIN.

The 12 hour layover is not a bad thing; you can do the Asiana city tour or sleep in the GREAT transit hotel in the terminal. I used to say Changi (SIN) was World's best airport but last 5 years it has ranked number 2, to INCHEON!

And after a trip to the PI last thing on Earth you will want is more sex in EITHER SIN or ICN.

Search the archives and you'll fin a couple reports I've posted on the layover in Seoul and things to do.

If you have never been to SIN, it is certainly worth seeing. BY FAR the most civilized city in all of Asia. BY FAR. But it aint cheap. That said, I was SHOCKED to hear Orchard Hotel is now $200; used to always get it for half that on asiatravel.com. I use SIN as the stopover on the way to Jakarta, just 90 minutes away, but for a waystation to Manila it is FAR out of the way as mentioned above.

Been a few years but I used to get LT from the towers for no more than 200Sing (about $140 at current forex rates). Geylang is cheaper but less kweilo (roundeye) friendly and NOT LT oriented at all.

Check www.sammyboy.sg, the redbook of SIN for details on mongering.

Final point is BOTH airlines are QUITE COSTLY (you do get what you pay for). The cheap fares typically either give ZERO UA miles or at best 70% of miles flown.

I flew to SFO-MNL earlier this year on Delta and was surprised it was actually decent. Fares were good too when booked online.

I know the OP wanted info regarding Singapore or Asiana, but the layover at NRT with Delta was 2.5 hrs.

SFO-NRT was on an Airbus A330 w/ personal AVOD. NRT-MNL was on a 747-400 but only a big-screen TV for movies, but they are currently upgrading the interiors on their 747s.
