"9ers beating the patriots"

They just seem to be manhandling them around, Moss is scared of the ball after he got hit during the reverse.

they seem to come up short just at the right moments, yeah a lil more pressure would have helped, too many times they just sat back in teh zone and wait for the QB to find someone.

Anybody want to explain to me why Don Strickland was guarding Moss as opposed to Harris or Clement, our two high-priced corners?

Having the week off, Al Davis put something in the water on the 49ers sideline. He wanted to drive home the point that Lane Kiffin traded away his most prized receiver in Moss - apparently over Mr. Davis' strong objection?

But seriously, someone pointed out afterward, I think on the Point After show, that for the first time Nolan didn't have all the answers during his press conference after the game, and he looked like a beaten man.

I don't know why the defense is suddenly struggling for answers. It's been the same story the last couple of weeks - "we don't know why we couldn't execute like we know we can". The defense is on the field way too much each week, but that is nothing new, and it was not a factor in Moss running straight through the secondary on that TD play early in the game. New England's defense had some breakdowns in coverage too, I'm thinking of one pass to Bruce where he was wide, wide open, even after he had already burned them a couple of times. But they made adjustments and put together enough plays on both sides of the ball to win.

I'm not jumping on the bandwagon to call for Nolan's firing before the end of the season or to replace ownership (I'd have to cease hobbying for the rest of the year, and even with that I'd still need some serious financial help in buying the team). Everyone knew that following Detroit it would be a tough row to hoe over the next few games at least. But they could have beaten both of these teams if they had maintained the high level of play which they seem to be capable of in spurts. They need to get these adjustments figured out, and quickly.

...to step-in as head coach, in case there is a chance out of a thousand that Nolan does get fired?

On the same topic: Any way we can get Holmgren on the off season?

I don't know who might be available. I'm afraid of whomever might be available if the York's brain trust is pressured into making a change. It's a little bit like Russian Roulette - with more than one bullet in the chamber.

If Nolan is fired before the end of the season Martz acts as interim head coach and probably officially gets the title in the off season if they show any improvement on the field. Martz probably gets the nod in the off season if the team doesn't turn it around this year under Nolan anyway.

Interesting possibility with Holmgren coming available but I don't see it happening. He has certainly proven his capabilities, but not lately. He looks like he needs a break from it. Besides, I don't know if I can picture Holmgren and Martz on the same sideline.

holmgren is overrated IMO, he's had all the power in the world in with the seahawks and they are not exactly burning it up.

I say give nolan till the end of the year.

Getting Martz into the program was one of the few moves the York's did right. I cheered when I heard that news when it came out. Sort of a bittersweet introduction into the 49ers, IMHO. After all those years that Martz was the thorn in the 49er's side. It was only fitting that he came on board when he became available.
I think Martz is the reason why Nolan is still floating. I can't beleive all the hoopla was for that dud, Nolan! Especially when they say he's related to so and so. I thought those are big shoe's to fit into! LOL!
Yeah, end of the season should be drama central in Santa Clara.

Yep, that Moss sure looked "scared" on that 66 yrd TD. And all his other receptions as well.

The Niners are slipping under the waves, again. It's time to bid Mike Nolan a fond farewell. Maybe York can accuse him of being a "liar" a few hundred times and try to weasel out of paying him the rest of his contract.
