"Internet Explorer on PC"

My desktop is all messed up. Now don't try to be cute, you know
"you've been watching too much porn".
When I go to Internet Options, it won't respond. After about 1 hour the computer just freezes.
It won't let me load another browser or Spybot.
Any suggestions, I'm running Windows XP.
I am using my Laptop Dell XP with Google Chrome, no problems.
I may just save all the stuff on my desktop and wipe it clean with Symontex and start all over downloading, except Microsoft won't sell anyone Windows XP anymore.

Aside from the obvious question, "Why are you still using IE?"

Have you tried to use another browser on your desktop?

---

When is the last time you did a . . .
Defragmentation
Check Disk
Cleared out cache

---

Have you tried to reboot in 'safe mode'? Does this work?

---

Network Connectivity -- You say you're using your laptop. Are you connecting to internet the way you do on your desktop? (same network)

---

If you can use another browser and/or doing routine maintenance does the trick, you can always then just reinstall IE. If not, then maybe it's time to run the . . .

Anti-Virus I'd recommend using Panda online or Avast if you can't get to your own.
Malware
HiJack This

---

But it sounds to me as though you probably have one of those nasty trojan viruses.

---

Final question . . .

Where's your backup?

I had to do a factory reset on my Windows XP laptop a couple weeks ago, due to a pretty serious virus. The lack of an XP installation CD was not an issue. Not sure if this is also the case with your Dell, but I rebooted and held down the 0 key until the factory reset option came up on screen. The reset process took about two hours, driven by software that's already on the computer. Might be worth checking.

Still, unless you have a compelling reason for staying on XP, this might be a good time to upgrade to Windows 7.

Have you tried doing a System Restore? Say go back a couple of weeks or maybe a month. I know that sounds pretty simple but it might work.

Thanks everyone. There is Microsoft Support for IE 8. A guy in India took 2 hour and fixed my machine. It had 61 problems in the >>>I don't know what, but he took IE8 off my machine and put back IE7.
Now it works fine.
