"I love my new portable bbq...."

I have had this for a couple of years actually - but it works exactly as advertised - put the charcoal in - close it up - light it - 10-15 minutes later it's ready to rock - when done throw in the heat proof back and get going.... really genius - well made etc.

It took me a while to figure how how to get the highest heat from it - but the last few times the cast iron grates have been literally red hot. Anyhoo - I recommend highly - great for tailgating!

discuss among yourselves...

I have one of these. It is handy and there's no charcoal to deal with.
You just open the top and fire it up. It has a quartz ignition.

I've used these many times - they don't get hot enough for my liking but they are handy.

I can cook a London Broil to my satisfaction. Are you doing hammering out horseshoes or what?

Well I do like to get a proper sear - and that takes very high heat!

However - If I get round to buying a horse and shoeing it myself I would my hibachi for sure!

>>and searing it over the hottest possible fire

~ David Walzog knows meat. As executive chef at Michael Jordan's Steak House N.Y.C. and Tapika, he always gets that elusive steakhouse char. His secret: dipping the steak in a combination of butter and oil, coating it with a generous layer of kosher salt and cracked black pepper, and searing it over the hottest possible fire

I was given a "Freedom Grill" 3 years ago as a Christmas present from a friend. It's designed/built specifically for tailgating. However, since I don't tailgate, I use it for camping and the few times I've used it, the grill worked awesome!

You can check it out at www.freedomgrill.com

That is ingenious. Thanks for sharing that.

Me, I don't tailgate, just have a Klose in the backyard.

Best place to buy charcoal in the SFBA is near the Cow Palace in Brisbane:

http://www.lazzari.com/

Ignore the mesquite lump and get yourself the hardwood lump. They also have wood based briquets.

I go through probably 400-600 lbs a year of their stuff.
