"A's vs. Indians..."

Shakin' things up as August heads towards September, and more dog days...

Conor Jackson has hernia surgery and is gone.
Travis Buck is sent back down after batting 0-10 and contributing nothing.
Matt Carson is called back up after batting .195 in his previous stint in Oakland.
Kouzmanoff is rested after a major and dismal slump (.145).
Back-up new arrival Larish is 2-2 with a homer in tonite's game.
Pennington flies out with the bags loaded in the 4th and is now a resounding 4-24 with the bases full (.170).

Meanwhile, Gio has no hit the Tribe through the first 3 innings.

Where would we be without our remarkable starting pitching?

Somewhere south of Seattle. (And maybe north of a Mexican minor league team)!

Go A's.

Classic Jack Cust:

Comes up in the first inning with two outs and a man at third and strikes out (naturally).

Leads off the third inning with a base hit (of course Now he gets his hit for the day).
Standing at second with two outs, he makes it only as far as third base on a two out single and ends up getting stranded there.

Comes up in the 5th inning again with a man in scoring position at 2nd base and grounds out.

1 for 3 with no RBI's and no runs scored; 0 for 2 w/RISP.

Classic.

Update: Then he hits a 2 run homer in the 7th. Sigh.

What are we gonna do with you Jack Cust?

Well, enough A's bashing for a couple nights. We are cleaning up on Cleveland! 18 innings allowing no earned runs (Kouz error allowed one unearned tonight). Cahill wins his 14th and drops his ERA to 2.43. H-Rod enters the 9th and after throwing one ball, tosses 9 strikes in a row and K's the side. I think 6 of the 9 hit 101 on the gun.

Teams must dread facing the A's pitchers. They now have 17 games in a row where the starting pitcher has not allowed more than 3 runs. And no team has scored more than 5 runs against the A's in all of August.

Of course, most team's pitchers must also drool when they face the A's, but as I said....we'll keep this thread positive!

H-Rod as our lights out setup man next year? YES!

Adding him to the best rotation in the A.L. next year will be sweet. And adding some sticks in 2011 would be even SWEETER!

A fan can dream, right?

Not just a dream, Falc. Freeing up about $25M in salary (less the spike that will inevitably benefit our Starting 5 who are incredibly ALL at the league minimum right now) should make next year a fun one.

Unless we resign Chavez after he finishes taking his nap to another 6-year $66M sal........bwahahah hooo hoooo ROTFLMFAO.

Sorry, couldn't get all that out without busting up.

Back to H-Rod (actually, we need a different nickname cause I don't want him associated with the other Wads).........never could quite understand who gets selected for starting and relieving through the Minor League system. Is it that they don't feel Henry could keep his needed velocity for an entire game? Worried about blowing out his arm? Afraid he'd go the Harden route? What a switch. The A's preventing an injury.

If the Giants had the A's starting staff, they'd be ahead of the Pads. Conversely, if the A's had the Giants lineup they'd be leading the Rangers. Is it possible to merge the teams?

[really corny ones ]

Lightning Rod?.........Fuel Rod?

Anything to keep my mind off that sorry "should've won" game last night. Had our opportunities....especially in 8th & 9th. And once again, we make a Batting Practice pitcher look like Cy Young.

Oops, sorry...........

How about HeRo?

   2 for 13 w/ RISP (.150) and 9 LOB's only to lose by 1 run. Sound familiar?

On the other hand, sure enjoying seeing these pitching performances. Only getting better as the year goes on.

They'll likely finish a respectable .500 by year's end with the pitching winning half their games while the batting loses the other half.

That's the 2010 A's team in a nut shell.
