"Best/easiest/fastest way to get a new passport?"

I let my old one expire a couple years back.

Technically I don't need a new passport until January, but I've been told not to wait too long because it can take "months."

Anyway, I know there are a few ways to go about it -- just wondering if anyone has had success (ease/semi-fast) with one way or another that the would recommend.

Ran into the same situation a couple years ago. I thought, initially, it would be best to get some photos taken at Longs or something and go through a hassle.

It really couldn't have been simpler however.

I went down in the morning to my Main Post Office after calling them about passport and after a couple minutes in line went to a room where they took the pictures (one they did over), signed or filled out some stuff, and was out of there and done in about 30 minutes.

What was very odd was that the Passport arrived in just under two weeks.

When I renew again, will just do the same, easy, and fast identical method. No hassles.

I know you can get one even faster, for additional cost through various sites I've seen when doing a search but this was much simpler and convenient.

January is some time away so an expedite not really necessary unless something has changed or I just happened to luck out on the time frame in terms of getting it so quickly.

I don't recall what I paid however but felt a bit better just getting it done at a US Post Office a fairly short drive away.

Did the same thing about a year ago.

It was a fast and easy process.

I did the same for my daughter's passport. Went to the Post Office.Filled out the paperwork. The people at the Post Office were also very helpful. Had her picture taken. Got passport in mail a couple weeks. Quicker than they say you will get it. I think I paid $60 for it. About 5years ago.

A couple of years ago I paid for a cruise but I needed a passport because it ended in Canada and I would have had to cross the border to catch my flight home from Seattle. I went to the county clerk's office 6 weeks before the cruise was set to leave and submitted my application and expedited it. Supposedly it would take two weeks. Yeah, right. They "lost" the application. I ended up calling my congreeman's office, all to no avail. I cancelled the cruise three days before departure. The passport showed up the day the cruise was set to leave. I guess the moral of the story is, if you're planning on going on a trip get the process started at least three months before your departure date.

I renewed mine via mail a couple of years ago, and it arrived within a couple of weeks. This was during that period when it was taking months for new passports to be issued.

Fastest way is to take your travel itinerary to the passport office in SF and have an expedited passport sent to you. (I think there is a 1 month window.) New photos and your old passport will also be required.

It doesn't get lost in the mail so easiest, fasted (and probably most expensive). Whether that is best for you can only be defined by you.

No max time 30 days, but you can get one in a couple of days if you pay extra...I think.

I got my passport within 10 working days of submitting the application. I did not use the express service. From what I heard, the express service is a waste of money.
