I know that the tweener looks impressive on video, but it's well within the abilities of any club pro or 'A' player. Sort of in the same category as when a player reaches behind his back to return a hard volley that would otherwise go between his legs.

I can describe what I think is a more impressive shot, but I don't think I can find a video that displays it. It occurs when you're at the net and your opponent sends a reachable lob to your backhand side. Making the shot requires you to spin to your left, and at impact, you're actually standing with your back to your opponent, launching a backhand overhead smash that's as powerful as any overhead you could hit from the forehand side.

Come to think of it, I did see a woman execute that shot in a TV commercial a few decades back. Post Grape-Nuts commercial, maybe?

You are arm chairing again!
That is a very difficult shot, and I would like to see you try that shot. I used to be 5.0 player and would not even consider such a very difficult timing hit. Roger did not just get the shot back, but a passing shot winner.

I've seen the shot made numerous times in club tournaments. You would have too if you were really the 5.0 player you claim to be. I mean, seriously, how difficult is it to repeatedly lob over a guy who's 4'10"?

That was pretty darn close. Roger's feet are at about 90 degrees left when he connects with the ball, and he's still looking forward. I'm describing something more like the tennis equivalent of Willie Mays' famous catch.

I know the shot you're talking about. I think Ilie N.stase was the first to hit that shot. Bud Collins used to call it the 'Bucharest boomerang

Thanks, Pheromone. The second of the three clips is what I'm talking about, even though it's a badminton clip. Nice powerful snap of the wrist, and at the point of impact, the player may not even be able to see what he's hitting.

You got it, mah brutha. I don't know why the question and quest intrigued me so much. Guess I was fatigued from watching the Yankees-A's bloodbath and needed a diversion. Plus, got me to watch a badminton match for the first time. As remarkable hand-eye coordination as table tennis. Not that tennis isn't an amazing skill sport-- it is....but the reactions and speed of badminton and table tennis are superhuman.
