"MiFi - Alternative to Comcast?"

Ran across this article and was wondering if it really is a viable alternative to Comcast Cable as stated in the article.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Your-Own-Hot-Spot-and-nytimes-362333608.html

I know for sure it would be way slower, (I think I've been spoiled with the speed of cable, especially when logged into chat)
On the plus side, at $40 a month with unlimited usage, it would save a few bucks a month over Comcast's Xfinity service and would provide secure internet access while traveling without having to look for wifi hotspots.

What do you guys think?

I'm getting around 2.4Mbps with comcast in the southbay

There was an article in NYTimes about mifi and I wrote to David Pogue, their tech write.

He said mifi would be fine for email, pandora, but wasn't sure about Netflix.

As soon as I find a store with a demo, I will bring in my itouch and try it out with Netflix for itouch.

since their is no contract required for mifi, i think the idea of a local hot spot, with UNLIMITED data, if you have 3g coverage is a great idea, especially when traveling

if you could get an iphone without having to purchase the data plan, then a mifi/iphone combo would be nice

What makes a touch with a $40 a month secondary device for web access better than an iPhone with, at most, $30 a month for web access?

...and that's, one to grow on.

iphone with att has bandwidth caps now, mifi doesn't, and if you exceed att bandwidth cap, users will need to sell their bmws to pay for the overage fees
