"Olive Oil for lubrication"

Is olive oil safe for sex? My wife likes to use it because of the flavor, but I wasn't sure if it is okay for vaginal use...

my guess would be that it would increase the chance of bacterial infection. I have absolutely no scientific basis for that opinion.

I do know, however, that olive oil will break down a condom.

Oils break down latex condoms, but Skyns (a polyeurethane) are safe with oil. Good for use after a massage, for example.

If you really want to use oil, jojoba oil is safe, cheaper than olive oil, and less likely to support bacteria in the vagina.

Thanks PaulF for the important safety info.

Funny but by looking up good edible lube.. I found an article from the Red book magazine and they are more liberated than thought.

Why olive oil specifically?

You don't have a hankering for an extra virgin or something, do you?

What a long, strange trip it's been.

Not only is olive oil not latex safe as was pointed out already, heavier oils are also not good for vaginal health :/

Can't speak for olive oil, but I have used coconut oil extensively for condoms on sex toys and I can say that I've NEVER seen coco oil degrade a condom, including under lots of extended friction for a period of about 5 years.

It's often said it's not the oil that degrades latex, rather it's the petroleum in a petroleum oil that degrades latex.

I've played with olive oil and melted butter too, and anything that goes into the vagina is going to radically alter the PH there at the very least if you leave that stuff in there. There are also good arguments against douching frequently with water and god knows what is on the shelves these days changes or elimanates the flora and fauna of the vagina in the christian attempt to make sure there is no odor, (which = shame in that model, anywhere. I mean not every woman has sex multiple times a day like a provider would and I should just be quiet right now.

I wouldn't think that you are going to be oiling up the SO every night of the week and sometimes getting real slippery is a whole lot of fun.

But anywhere that the olive oil goes it has to be removed. and the same for many of the flavored lubes, btw (lots of sugar), and I don't think that silicone lube is wonderful in there all the time anyway, a vagina does not like go to econo-lube and request a synthetic oil change, that's bizarre, just use plain regular astroglide.

If the PH of the vagina is constantly altered that's not good, then all kinds of bad things happen, actually think of it this way, if you screw up the balance of things in her vagaina, she'll most likey have something like a UTI infection at the very least and then you won't be having ANY sex at all for awhile, so the message is um wait let me think, what is it?? I dunno, just remind her to clean it all out, it's not like she's a salad going back in the fridge for a week. Hmm I might want to do that to someone, that's kind of a hot thought, putting them in the fridge. Cool!

There is a lot of information on the internet about all of these subjects, please search and find them, I am not a doctor however I do play one sometimes in my work.

Be Safe, Auttie, xoxo
